I don't think the government would have to use force against it's citizens... but if they did who could stand up to them? The difference between Iraq and the US is that insurgency here can be easily dealt with because the majority of people would see resistance as a wacko- fringe reaction.

The key word for your lame defense and the key word in my signature is the use of the word 'maybe' as a method to somehow justify drive-by character defamation or avoid responsibility when you get called out on it. I think if you read the thread it is evident that nobody but you thinks you are right. The situation still stands. That was a very limited small group. Of course they would have no chance against the Federal Government. And, more than that, they weren't planning on over-throwing the Government. Any group that is going to over-throw the government (if it's injustices are minor) will be seen as wacko. When the injustices are such that the majority (or notable minority) of the citizens are affected, then a Revolution will gain support. For example, can you imagine the effect on National Government if we had 100,000 (or even 10,000) Timothy McVeighs? It is definitely plausible that a group of revolutionaries (read terrorists) would have shot at over-turning the Federal Government, if they were large enough and the public didn't support said Government.
The branch davidians were buying semi-automatic guns at gunshows, converting them to full auto, and then selling them unlicensed. It's not like the government just decided they were whackos they didn't want to have guns. They were whackos violating the NFA and as a result the ATF had warrants from a federal judge. If they were selling semi-auto guns legaly they would still be there.
