Might as well roll with this young roster with promising upcoming players than old veterans to plug in the holes.
Well no matter how they do this year....I'm still gonna try to catch every game...but gonna have to work around my school schedule of course
I don't even like baseball that much but, man I get excited for the Astros' opening day. I'm sitting here in DC contemplating blowing some of my tax return on MLB TV just so I can feel like I'm back in Houston.
I am excited to see a top of the order with a reasonable OBP. It has been a long while. I am excited to see if any of the young starters can develop into a good MLB starter. I suspect that one of Weiland, Harrell or Happ will.
Schafer, Lowrie and Altuve had OBP of 397 or higher in ST. If they can maintain that pace, Mills will have no choice but to put at least two of them at the top of order. Lowrie's 611 SLG might make him the perfect candidate for the third spot.
Well, Lowrie is hurt & Schafer has a lifetime OBP of .311 (.327 across 7 minor league seasons). I'd guess Schafer leads off, and Altuve hits 2nd to start the year.
I am excited about the Stros, not because I feel they will have a great, or even good season (I am guessing 65-70 wins), but because the direction is the right one. Getting better. I am not sure I remember the last opening day where my first thought wasn't that they probably will be worse than last year. I am extremely confident they will improve over last year. And better yet, I believe the next 3 or 4 opening days I can have this confidence as well. We will probably see the last of the veteran holdovers from past years (Lee, Wandy, Myers) dealt by the trade deadline, so by May, the team will truly have few if any reminders of all those waning years (2006-11). The names I see in the box score will nearly all be fresh ones. And along with that, for me, a fresh outlook as well. Go Stros!
You might think I'm clinically insane, but i believe we will finish third in the div. a couple of games shy of .500.
Although I am predicting fewer than this, it isnt out of the realm of possibilities that they could get to 76-79 wins. *If they dont have key injuries *If a few guys really step up *If the central division as a whole is mediocre (making 3rd place) Could happen
I've determined that this will be the year that I start following baseball. Figured I'd buy low I guess. I just hope it isn't going to be as bad as last year.
