Where is Chantilly? That street name if very familiar. I think I must have had a childhood friend back in the early 60s that lived on that street.

It was just off Oak Forest Drive. There were streets like Saxon and Chamboard, Curtin, Thornton -- its been a long time.

S-t-a-r-t-i-n-g to come together. I think that I lived at the corner of Oak Forest and Thornton and my friend lived at the corner of Oak Forest and Chantilly. Are they just 1 or 2 blocks apart?

LD is right across Shepherd on 38th. They are one of the largest sound and lighting companies in the Southwest. They did sound istalls for places like Cythia Woods Mitchell Pavillion, but now primarily focus on gear for touring bands. They provide gear to TONS of national acts as well as huge conventions and things like that.

I've had quite a few friends work there over the years and I've rented plenty of gear from them.

They also do the gear for Southern Star.
I worked more than a few shows with them in the early 90's.
Pretty cool guys, they really know their stuff.

Prior to a Houston visit in 1993 or so, I confirmed these addresses and sent personal letters to the current occupants asking if I would be allowed in for a brief tour of these two and one other house that we lived in from 5th grade through High School.

I heard from the folks on Garden Oaks Blvd and the latter home. I really would have liked to see the house on Thornton, though-- not a word from those folks. Too bad, lots of memories from that house.

After visiting the house on Garden Oaks Blvd., my mom and I strolled down to the Elementary School and poked around. We dropped in to the principal's office. I introduced myself and was told that I had just missed my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Martin, by one (lousy) hour. She had just retired and was just cleaning out her things.

go to www.gardenoaks.net or .org for more info.
there is also a bbs at

    http://bbs.gardenoaks.org/

but most residents prefer to use the listserv feature set up long ago at egroups, which is now at yahoo.com. The community is trying to ween people from the listserv.

My grandmother lives on Cheshire (in Oak Forest) and I would have bought there or garden oaks but my wife just had to be in the Heights.
