Yes, it would per phone if instituted. Typical usage with just the phone itself does not go over 5 gigs, unless you do a lot of music/torrent downloading (like me), download a lot of apps, and use streaming media services like netflix mobile or youtube HD. Just surfing the web won't come close to the cap. probably won't even use 500 megabytes that way.

Typical Hotspot/Connection card use usually does go over 5 gigs, since most people use that for their computers (especially on 4g). For example, my ISP (cox) gives me a monthly cap of 200 gigs a month. i usually use 50-60% of that.

Glad to hear that. We do work our asses off in order to offset the recent changes.

Sprint to sell iPhone with unlimited data service

Sprint to sell iPhone with unlimited data service Sprint plans to offer customers who buy the Apple iPhone its unlimited data service for a flat monthly fee, potentially putting pressure on bigger rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

In addition, despite the uncapped data, Sprint's individual pricing will be $5 to $10 cheaper per month than the other two carriers, based on current comparable price plans. Sprint is currently the only one of the three to offer family data plans, which can reduce monthly cost by another $5 per phone.

Sprint will become the third U.S. mobile provider to start selling the next iPhone model. In addition to the newly announced iPhone 4S, ranging in price $199 to $399, Sprint will also sell an 8-gigabyte iPhone 4 at $99. Its phone lineup will be the same as Verizon's, and almost the same as AT&T's, with the exception of the iPhone 3GS, which AT&T will offer exclusively for free with a two-year contract.

AT&T and Verizon both charge consumers for services like mobile Web-surfing and Internet app use on the basis of how much they use. Both carriers' phone data plans cap usage at 2 gigabytes, which more than meets demands from most typical smartphone users.

Analysts say that unlimited data could give Sprint an edge over Verizon and AT&T among heavy data users, yet they still say that the majority of Sprint iPhone customers will be people who are already on the Sprint network.

Sprint will be banking on the iPhone to bolster customer numbers as it has been losing subscribers for years.

Nomura Securities analyst Mike McCormack estimated that only about 10 percent of Sprint's iPhone customers will move from another carrier compared with 33 percent at AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

    Reuters contributed to this report.
