I'm on a bunch of knife forums but barely ever run across people from Houston. I focus on collecting automatics...mostly Rob Dalton but also have a couple of Microtechs. I'd like to connect and possibly trade with collectors from Houston.
USN handle - Taipan. I collect a few Hinderer XM-18s, Jason Stout, Fellhoelter, Sebenzas and Burnley Cypops.
I consider knives to be art and knife making to be an art form. Collecting is just something I like to do to pass the time.
I've seen your handle before..I think it was on jerzeedevil. I don't use USN very much. I think my account is still awaiting activation by admins.
Bought some kitchen knives from Bed Bath and Beyond a couple years ago. Not the prettiest set, but gets the job done.
IMO, there is absolutely nothing artistic about the type of knives yall are talking about. Knives can be art, but those ain't it.
Sure that's your opinion. If you know Rob Dalton's work you'll know he had a lot of creative designs and many different variants/colors of each of his models. I'm not sure if you've even heard of him but you can see a few of his designs here: http://home.comcast.net/~km4yk/Dalton.html http://home.comcast.net/~km4yk/Dalton2.html http://home.comcast.net/~km4yk/Dalton3.html http://home.comcast.net/~km4yk/Dalton4.html Here's one that I own. Mini nickel crusader with damascus blade. One of 5 made: His most famous design was the Cupid which is probably one of the most copied knives ever produced. It is the knife used by Joker in the Dark Knight.
I don't collect knives anymore though I have a fair share of them. However I do make knives from time to time. I've even forged damascus steel before. I don't like automatics because I like to use my knives and automatics are not very practical.
