Yes, she told me she did, it's going to take a while to learn all the functions, but I can see that she did her homework and got the better one.
Sorry to dig up the old thread, fellas, but I have recently gotten very interested in the idea of picking up a satellite radio for the holidays. From what I've seen on here, Sirius seems to be the best choice for sports and news, and that's really the determining factor for me and the wife. Music is nice, but we don't seem to have time much. But I was looking online, and I'm a total moron with this stuff--but do you actually get almost all of the NBA games on radio, play-by-play? If that is the case, I'll pick up Sirius for sure. Thanks!!
I assume both Sirius and XM have Gospel music channels. Which is better? My wife and I prefer traditional Gospel music. Thanks.
I have Sirius and it's great except for the lousy customer service. I love to scroll without changing the channel to see what's playing on the other channels. Also you can put your favorite songs into memory so it will alert you whenever that song is on. The NBA schedule is online: http://www.sirius.com/servlet/Conte...y=MLAT&league=NBA&team=all&month=10&year=2005 I think you get every game. I was listening the Rockets Magic last night.
XM has better music choices in my opinion. However, if you're looking for sports and news coverage, sirius is the way to go. They have NBA, NFL, NCAA Football, NHL, and even English Premier League Soccer. They also have some decent sports talk radio. As for news, they have a great lineup as well. I personally like Sirius over XM but that depends on your taste
I was about to start a new thread on this. Good that ya'll dig it up. I have a in-deck CD player that supposed to be "Sirius ready", can anyone tell me what that means? Does it mean that I don't need a receiver if I plans to get Sirius?
Best reason to get XM: the Opie & Anthony Show! Ron & Ves are growing on me as well, but they aren't nearly as good.
Yeah I think Sirius ready means you don't need a separate receiver. I think you only need the antenna.
Sirius ready means that the stereo is ready for a receiver. You have to get the receiver from the company that manufactured the stereo (ie Pioneer, kenwood etc.). The difference in those receivers and the other sirius receivers is that all the Sirius stuff will come through your regular radio and you don't have to have the external box and you don't have to set your radio to a certain channel. You will also have to get an antennae. I was lucky, when I bought mine a year and a half ago, I got a deal where I bought the antennae and they gave me the $150 receiver for free. I assume though that the stereo receivers may be less expensive since it seems that most of the other stand alones have had their prices reduced.
No idea about XM, but Sirius has 3 Christian channels. Spirit, is comtemporary christian (like KSBJ), Revolution is rock/alternative (like Switchfoot, and POD), and Praise is the traditional gospel channel. http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=Page&cid=1126670694869 IF you ar einterested, Sirius will also give you a 3 day online trial. You can listen to their music channels online for three days. Subscribers can listen anytime. I love listening at my computer at work.
http://www.xmradio.com/programming/neighborhood.jsp?hood=christian I don't listen, so I don't know if it's what you'd like.
Sirius has better reception bc the signal is beamed down directly from satellites whereas XM signal must be received from many towers.
Sirius satelites move around and XM's are stationary....so if this is going to be at your house, you want your Sirius antenna on your roof. I've never had trouble picking up an XM signal anywhere, but the Sirius signal cuts out from time to time.
I have XM in my house and my dad has it in his truck. It's bascially got everything you need, awsome for road trips. All the music you can think of, all the news shows and sports shows. I've never had Sirius, but I'm sure its good. I think satellite radio is worth it, especially if you actually listen to the radio a lot.
Why would that make it better? Sirius has 3 satellites that loop through the upper and lower hemispheres. At any given time only 1 (I believe) is available to the Sirius listener. XM pretty much as 2 satellites in fixed position always available. That being said, I know for a fact, based upon reading tons of threads and posts about this that reception really varies for both. They both can cut out, they both can be rock solid - it depends on where you are in the country, what's overhead, and what terrain is around you. On flat open highways, I doubt you'll have any problems with either one.
I was on a flight the other day and I could have sworn another passenger had some sort of portable satellite radio. He was 2 rows in front of me but the unit looked just like the kind I've seen advertised. If they can be used in a plane that would be cool. I know the flight attendant says portable radios aren't allowed, which I think is total bs. I think they are just afraid a radio might pick up a cockpit coversation somehow. How could a unit that only receives a signal have any effect on flight instruments? I don't buy it.
My Jetta came with XM radio. I don't think I've EVER put AM/FM on in my car since I drove the car out of the lot. XM (and satellite radio in general) is simply awesome. I can't and won't go back to normal radio now. (Just like I can't go back to a normal laptop after using my tablet PC.)
I'm still loving sirius... texans. rockets.. and the ability to listen to vandy sports on it.. has me hooked
