No I think you completely misunderstood the thread. I'm saying this current rockets team right now with no Yao no Mac No Deke, this team as of may 15 2009, will win at the very least 2 titles with Dream in the middle. All of you have failed to make a valid argument.
You don't have to win a championship to be able to make this argument. That is just plain ignorant and a very annoying trait by the older Rockets fans on this board. I was a fan before this current team and know the former championship teams pretty well (although not as well as some because I was young then). The Rockets bench right now is better than the one back then. I would also say factoring in all factors Battier is better than Ellie. After that I can see both sides and depending on what you want in the other players both the new and old players could be the best choice. Oh and just so people argue correctly you need to look at Thorpe in the championship years. He was great before the championship years but in those two seasons he was very comparable to Scola.
if Dream is 20 years younger and is playing now with this team, Rockets will beat the Lakers. I mean how could Lakers defend Dream using Bynum, Gasol, Odom? Tinman did not say no yet.
C'mon....we have no center and we taking them to game 7, with one of the greatest center of all time in his prime I think we'll do more than just beat the lakers my friend. 2 championship at the very least.
If I could make one suggestion to you, go back and watch every single playoff game from the 95 championship run. That team was complete and deep. I get the argument about Dream and Clyde, but the bench was amazing back then. Sam I Am and the gang were phenominal. Maybe I am being a bit nostalgic and unwilling to criticize them but those guys were just special and hold a great spot in my memories. These young guys now are close and if we pull this out.......then maybe I will concede my doubts.
Current roster does remind me of our past a bit in that if you consider the great Rockets teams have always been filled w/ nobodys (sans Moses, Sampson, Dream, Cyde) who are best as underdogs w/ backs against the wall. It's really the team thing, it's the AB quote from last night in my sig, that's Rocketball. (Oh, and no turnovers and make 3s)
They both played power forward for the Rockets, but that's where the comparisons kind of end. OT scored in transition, and was a strong inside finisher Scola has his post spin move and the 13 foot jumper Very different styles. As far as productivity they are pretty comparable, so you are correct, whichever one you prefer depends on what style you want to play, who you want to match up against, who you want them to play with, etc.
If we had that version of Olajuwon, we wouldn't even be playing a GM 7. (Sweep, or 4-1, in our favor) Hell, we would probably even be the number one or two seed.
