Its a waterproof glue .... the long grain bond is actually stronger than the wood itself. They will last forever as long as you don't stick them in the dishwasher , the humidity will warp them , even being almost 2 inches thick. They aren't terribly difficult to make but do require quite a bit of tools. I have them in maple and walnut or maple and Brazilian cherry.
Yeah you can use it as a planer / jointer .... and a lot of trim / detail work and even for joinery. I just have the planer / jointer and use other techniques for joinery. I'd probably use mine more if I had a dovetail jig ....
Bumping this old thread cause I don't know where to put this .... Should I have made a new thread ?! I finally broke down and bought a top of the line CNC .... capabilities are insane. Considering doing some Rockets logo cutting boards and gauging interest in them before I do all the associated computer & wood work. My idea is 12x16x1.5 endgrain maple cutting boards with an acrylic inlay of the logo below - Price point being around $175. You can take a look at my son's instagram , link in my sig for examples of other cutting boards we've done. Apparently all the images I uploaded to this thread are gone ....
Longmill 30x30 from Sienci Labs in Canada. I got it the first of the year and have been using it almost daily. I'm thinking about switching over to VCarve Pro. Their online community seems to be bigger and more active. I do like carveco though and it is similar to VCarve. Just slightly different lingo
I considered that machine , its at a real good price point (Does the software come with it for the $975?) but I wanted more Z axis travel so I went with the Next Wave CNC Shark 520 with the extended bed , its 63x28 and has 7 inches of Z travel compared to most others which range from 1.5 to 4. Yeah , its pricey .... I don't much use the online community for anything , I prefer to make my own designs or have my son do the computer work , he needs something to do ....
I got a month free using a link from longmill and some discounts for a couple of months after. I'm getting tired of paying month to month for it so I'm looking to purchase the software. I wanted to make sure I was going to be satisfied with it first. I haven't done it yet but I plan to put a removable top under my waste board to get more Z-axis
You ever worked with wood that's been soaked in a river for years? This was a new fun find for me, pecan log in the Colorado for I have no idea how long...trimmed it down to the heart and started playing... Gotta re-do the finish on the front because "someone who shall remain nameless yet I am pissed off at every time I look at this" left a wet rag draped across it.
Funny I did an engrain cutting board out of a pecan log that had been submerged for who knows how long .... sat in my garage almost 3 years before it was dry enough to do anything with. I gave this one to my son
No lie, do you sell cutting boards similar or not to that? That's beautiful, I'm thinking gift for a culinary minded relative. You ever want some thick mesquite to play with, let me know. Or ceder. Or pecan. Or oak. Or elm. Or native walnut. Or maple. You get the jist.
Sure do , sold 4 today ..... I'll take all the walnut you'll let me haul off (& mesquite). I have a ready supply of oak pecan & maple. Maple Walnut & Cherry Top one is Brazilian cherry & maple , two on the bottom are walnut & maple.
