sir scarv-Well, let's also remember Cato. If he's doing as awesome as being said (Clutch said something to the extent of him being spectacular), he could become a 1 man defensive force. Mutumbo is fine in Atlanta. We'll still have Hakeem. That gives us another year to get another defensive player, which to me is good.

If we can get Webber, he *could* become our exact need, because IMO, he's a good defensive player (good, not a force, but a quick player, who's good for a block a game).

We got an extra pick for next year. Basically, here's a possible scenario of the difference. You decide in this-

Collier-Loren Woods (2 picks used to move up and get him) or Pryzbilla-Brendan Haywood (as we are)

I used centers (Woods/Haywood) as an example, because it was the easiest to use.

The more lefties on your team, the better.
Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong?
    Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.

Almu- Collier may be worth the #9 pick considering the pick we get next year. We're not going to win the championship this year. I do think we'll make the playoffs, but we won't be contenders by any means. Rudy and CD have a master plan I believe to make us contenders. And it doesn't all happen in one year. In the long run, getting Collier and the #15 pick next year will be worth a Moiso or Thomas. I honestly believe that.

Cat, like I said, I am hoping that I am wrong. When this team loses, I lose sleep. So, its not like I want them to lose.

i just took a look at the free agent list in 2001 and it looks pretty crappy.

if we don't get Chris Webber, we're screwed

Finley would be nice but we desperately need an inside presence and it's very unlikely Finley will leave Dallas.

Also, to my knowledge, these are just the players that officially would be FA's. There are a handful of others with a player option to become a free agent next year, not to mention some guys this summer like Duncan could sign one year deals.

Dice- I agree he isn't a low post presence, but don't give up hope. Remember that superstars like Francis get "disgruntled" every year. We have a shot this summer with our trade exception. We have a shot next year with our cap room. We have a chance every year in the draft if Rudy can make another smart move. Also remember that Detroit lottery pick could bring us Eddy Curry. Next year's free agent crop is not the only way to get a low post presence. Just get good players from it, and there are quality players available.

that's true but if Duncan and Hill go to Orlando for 1 year deals there's a good chance they're staying

While I am not exactly thrilled with last nights 3 hour debacle, I understand what our boys were trying to do. They were trying to add big men that had the potential to could countribute. There was no obvious player at the #9 that was going to make a serious contribution. They made a trade to aquire a big player that could possibly contribute.

Rudy and Co. have made it a habit to take 4 year players and they did just that because usually these players play a smarter brand of basketball and usually are good risks. Taking Mosio, an underclassman, and signing him to a guaranteed contract is a much bigger risk than getting Collier and Langhi. It was a calculated risk that makes sense because they now have the potential to be further under the cap next season when alot of teams won't even be close.

"Look, we were not gonna win a championship next year. We were not gonna make the playoffs either."

While the first statement is most likely true(did I just say that?? [IMG] )I think that is a bit...no VERY premature, to say we aren't going to make the playoffs. I think we showed alot of promise towards the end of last year. Now, Francis and Mobley have a year under their belts together along with Shandon and Walt getting their feel. Cato is working hard to refine his game and two other big bodies that we drafted last year we haven't even seen yet. Give it a chance before you bury the season.

Freak, you got my vote for the best statement in this thread..."The Rockets are trying to make teams worry about them, not let other teams dictate what they do."

I can't emphasize how right you are! We are drafting and manuevering to make ourselves better, not worry so much about what other teams are doing. That is one game we do not need to play.

We need some meat in the post and I don't mean Brian Grant!

Remember at the end of the season when we didn't want to win (so as to improve our lottery odds), but we suddenly started winning against even the good teams like Portland? That winning streak coincided with Walt Williams amazing recovery from his shooting slump. I think it is INCREDIBLY OBVIOUS THAT WE NEED SHOOTERS!!!! Cato can't shoot from outside and Kenny is streaky at best, if Walt isn't hitting then we desperately needed shooters. I utterly hated that we traded Przybilla for Collic, but I do understand that we needed a 4/5 who could shoot from outside to open up the lanes for Francis, Mobley and Anderson. Collier is a weapon that we simply didn't have last year. For now I'll have to trust that Rudy et all have alot better understanding of what we need to win than I do. But I will say the best way I can describe how I felt after getting Przybilla (whom I had lusted to see in a Rockets uniform) at #9 and then trading down for Collic was like going to a wine tasting and having the best bottle opened only to be konked on the head with it.

I agree with Rocketspimp. Everything came together towards the end of the season for us. I think our record does not accurately represent how good of a team we really are. The plays started working, players started clicking, and we became more clutch. With all this plus the added development of CATOMIC, hopefully Kenny, Francis, Mobley, Shandon, more chemistry, and the added benefits of a Collier or Langhi on offense, we might be a team to reckon with.

IN response to our draft picks, I think the Rockets made a pretty decent choice. The main thing I was upset about was the supposed lack of athletecism on Collier's part, but then I read that he surprised Rudy and company with his ability to run the floor. so this guy must be at least fairly athletic, so not that bad of a choice. And as everyone knows, our guard oriented offense will work very well with Collier setting the screens and everything. Plus we now have a big power forward that can also play the Center occasionally.

In Langhi, we got a massive upgrade over Matt Bullard, and maybe Langhi will even replace the Air Bullard whom we have come to love. But I dont even know if this guy will stick around. But I really wouldnt mind if he took Bullard's minutes. He's quick, tall, decent handles, and can shoot very well. Sure his defense isnt that great and he's skinny, but he's still an upgrade over Bull.

Almu, I totally agree with you on this one. Rudy seriously fu*ked up this draft. I mean come on...one Matt Bullard is bad enough...but three?!!!!! Rudy must suffer from some serious brain damage. We needed athletic guys who can run the floor, rebound, and play some 'D', none of these losers can do that. Moiso would have been a much, MUCH better choice.....

    Fu*kin' sad in my books.......

KANE, read MManal's thread about some common misconceptions about Collier. This guy is not like Bullard at all. He has athletism, can run the floor, and rebounds very well. That's 3 of your 4 characteristics right there. Collier will be a smart pick. Just watch.

Does anyone really think that Rudy would in his post draft conference say:

"Colliers atheleticism left alot to be desired, he's a tad on the slow side, and has bricks for hands" ????????

yeah but he wouldnt straight up lie either, unless we were planning to get him and trade him all along or something.

The actual games themselves support Rudy's statements anyway. Mmanal has watched tape of 5 or so of Collier's games and his comments pretty much supported what Rudy said.

I agree with some of you.....we damn sure don't need another Matt Bullard......or Walt WIlliams...BUT!!!!!!! letz please give these 2 HOUSTON ROCKETS a chance........they both are young.......and can shoot a hell of alot better and are way more athletical than BULLARD>....Langhi....is more than just a shooter......he can rebound and post good numbers on the defensive side as well.....we need a legitimate center........KENYONNNNNNNNNNN MARTINNNNNNNNNNNNN.......to replace Olajuwon....but remember we are building around 1 of the top 3 point guards in the West.....so.....someone to run the floor and play defense......is who we need.......so next year letz go for that........BUT these guys might surprise alot of you.......if yall give them a chance.......Kenny THomas by the way......could VERY EASILY be an all-star in the next 3-4 years.................HONESTLY i have played basketball for 17 years.....so I have a little knowledge of the game.........................peace

Kenny THomas can shoot.......flat out shoot.....and if he drops about 20 pounds..and hits the weights.....he will be an inside threat......ie [IMG]Charles Barkley), but with a better shot......he is on his way.......so the Kenny bashing, I cannot take for serious basketball talk...

BY THE WAY.........FORGET FINLEY and WEBBER.....we are looking for the future....we screwed it up 2 years ago......letz make up for it and BRING RASHARD LEWID BACK HOME>>..now he is gonna be something special

VERY ATHLETIC.......CAN BLOCK SHOTS......RUN.......REBOUND...and SHOOOT THE BALL

    peace

He doesn't impress you much Francis3? I'm glad you are not associated with any decision making that may go on about the team then. Kenny Thomas was the 6'7" guy from New Mexio man, you sure you're not thinking of John Turner from a few years back or something? KT, the New Mexico Lobo, 6'7" PF...we on the same page here right? So take your sarcastic/mocking typing method on back to your 4000 posts computer terminal and download you some basketball knowledge and then get back with me about KT!! thanks
