ice / cold water immersion is recommended for 15 to 20 minutes every two to three hours for the first 2 days
    Compression
keep it elevated above the level of the heart to further alleviate swelling
take 'em both : ibuprofen + Tylenol

Have you tried slamming your car door on it?

I did that to mine and it popped right back in shape after a bad sprain.

Had a serious ankle sprain a year ago. Really important to ice it as much as possible early on. Take ibuprofen 600-800mg daily, after eating. Get a good compression sock/brace for it. For me I had a really hard time telling when it was healed because swelling lasted for months. Once I got in physical therapy and was forced out of my comfort zone it got better pretty fast. So I highly recommend PT if it's in your budget.

Amputate at the neck. I promise you won't give that ankle another thought.

Yeah, the story never happened but this os what i did to recover from one earlier his summer.

What sucks is when you get older it takes longer to recover from injuries. I jammed my pinky and it still hurts, what used to take 2 to 3 days now takes 2 to 3 weeks minimum and possibly months if you keep tweaking it.
