Would you say that your concentration in school affected your teaching choice? I was a polisci/journalism major, so my writing background is pretty deep. How does the selection process go for teaching certain subjects? And yeah, im not certified, and I know I'd have to get cert'd first.
My buddy had a full-time job before he had his teacher's certificate. He went through an emergency certification program and was able to teach/coach full-time while getting his teacher's certificate. He went through this website.
Oh yeah, I was just making sure he knew that you had to have one eventually. I'm sure he did. My friend went through that website and got a job before he even started the program. I believe most districts will hire you for a 'probationary' period (at regular salary) while you go through the ACP. They will give you up to a year to finish it. Pretty sweet deal.
Yeah, that's exactly what my friend did. Submitted his application and transcripts, was excepted two weeks later (which he already knew he would due to his grades...same here) and had a job a month later. He started this in late-April and was in front of students in August. I've decided I'm doing the same. Once I told them how serious I was about it, my friends can't stop telling me how much they love it and how much I will.
So you're, uh, not gonna be teaching english, huh? Good luck, I've kicked this idea around the past couple of months as well.
