Everyone but Golden State - they'd probably trade Twan sooner then they let go of Murphy. Imagine if he imporves even more next year.

Screw Indiana, if we can't get Artest or O'Neal there's really nobody else that we need from that team (well okay, MAYBE Tinsely, but the juries still out on him). And looking at the Pistons.... Hamilton is good, but not what the Rox need. Wallace would be perfect but no way he's traded. Robinson is getting old, Williamson would be nice to have but he's like an undersized pf which is again not what the rox need. Prince is a rookie and would be a nice project, but I think rox have enough projects for now. Pistons have nobody that the Rox really want except Wallace.

Detroit are already the NUMBER 1 seed in the East Conf. So they can't get much better in the regular season and can afford time to develop talent. Do you really think that Anthony would make them much better in the very next year's playoffs and over the top as a title contender? No, right?

Milicic has the superstar potential which can ultimately put Detroit over the top which Anthony doesn't. The number 2 pick (i.e. Milicic) is untouchable.

Your saying Anthony doesn't have superstar potential? Come on, I'd take him over Darko any day. He's proven that he is head and shoulders above American College competition. He's ready for the next level. The real debate is Anthony or James

I agree, I'd take Anthony over Milicic anyday too. Milicic will take 3-4 years to develop while Anthony is ready to be a contributor right away- I still think Detroit will take Anthony, they need a strong small forward.

This debate is between yourself right? :p

No offense, but your argument is as weak as the Jay Williams over Yao Ming debate.

Every GM knows that the draft is set as No. 1 James, No. 2 Darko, No. 3 Anthony. And every GM will draft like that.

Wait and see if you really don't believe it. I can't help you that. :)

and wait...Why are you comparing Darko with Yao Ming?

The only thing similiar between them is that their not from the states.

i already answered the "thomas replacement" question. like i said, the pacers are in the "win now" mode. and yes, we do have time to wait for him to develop. aren't we waiting on yao ming to develop? aren't we waiting on steve francis' decision making to develop? also, thomas has always liked the "bad boys" image on his team. tinsley's no punk, but he's not the bad boy type like artest, harrington, b. miller, etc. o'neal and r. miller don't have to be "bad boys"...they're the franchise players. but the other guys - the role players - do.

as for needing a point guard neutralizer, i disagree. first of all, jamaal tinsley - when he is on top of his game - is very comparable to tony parker. very, very comparable. the difference, imo, is that parker has a certain mvp in the paint that tinsley does not have. but speed wise, tinsley's pretty damn quick up and down the court. and he's an above average finisher, as well.

second, GP is NOT that man. GP of today = scottie pippen in a rox uni. don't let his rep fool you. he's not the same player as he was. maybe if the price tag wasn't so high, i'd be ok with bringing him in. but he's going to want max type money on a mid length deal. f*ck that.

third, bball is not as simple as having to match your man. if yao ming and steve francis outplay their men (which they should be able to do 75% of the time), all tinsley has to do is

    a) take care of the ball
    b) don't let his man have free passes to the paint
    c) make quick decisions
    d) set up yao and steve (and others) with easy shots
    e) run the fastbreak like his jock's on fire

tinsley is capable of doing those things right now. in indiana, he just doesn't fit in, the same way as mario elie didn't fit in at portland. then, the rockets traded for him and he's "mr. clutch" "mr. kiss of death" and the whole world wonders where this ex-cba scrub came from. well he was always there. he just wasn't in the right situation....

I’d say Darko is more NBA ready than both Lebron and Carmelo. The level of competition he's faced (Yugoslavia) is heads and shoulders above anything Anthony or Lebron has ever faced. This is the same Yugoslavia that beat the USA for gold last summer. He’s played against these grown men since he was a kid. While Lebron and Carmelo have been playing against college and high school kids.

UTweezer, if you don't believe it, wait and see. WAIT AND SEE. Don't lose your cool.

I am not talking about who is going to be the better player. I am talking about who will be drafted higher.

    BTW,

Is this the very same reason what those "Jay over Yao" people said?

BTW, why did so many people talk about "NBA ready"?

When will people start to realize that the NBA draft nowadays is about "potential", not "NBA ready"?

Those got screwed are often those who drafted "NBA ready" over "potential", you know?

Regardless of how it does pan out, currently the debate is over James vs. Anthony, as UT says. Talk radio, some newspaper reports, etc. all have a few GM's saying that publicity aside, Athony may be the better pick at number 1.

The Williams vs. Ming debate is weak now, but wasn't at all leading up to the draft, where many many still thought Ming would be a bust and Williams was the sure thing.

Darko may be the next superstar European, or he may be the next Tschivilli (sp?), a enticing player that you have to wait on - and longer than Nowitzki took, for certain.

As for Detroit, they are clearly finding out that the regular season doesn't matter if you can't win in the playoffs. They are in a much much much better position to take the player more likely to help immediately (Anthony) then take more of a gamble.

My contention is that Francis is significantly more proven AND is exactly the player they need right now. He is a corign machine ofensively, and in a way different than any other Detroit player, with the possible exception of Corliss - who can ISO and score on his own, but not that well - in that Francis can create. They have more than enough defense to cover for any Francis deficiencies.

As for Houston, it's quite a risk. Remember Chicago did the exact same with Brand, getting a relatively unproven 7'0 footer who was just as likely to play PF or SF as Center, and, by all accounts, it really hasn't worked out - yet. Houston would have to bank on the fact that, good as he is, Francis isn't the leader or PG that works with this team, and that Darko is significantly better than Chandler, or else we will more permanently join the ranks of forever rebuilding.

It's a direct response of Anthony's outstanding performance in the NCAA. They need something to talk, to hype. But believe me (if you don't believe me, believe your eyes when the draft is made), those talks will die down once the draft is around and the positions will be set as above mentioned.

Plus, don't you think it's some trick (this Anthony better than James/Milicic or Jay better Yao) by the team with No. 2 or No. 3 to hope for a slip up? I think so but I don't think it will work.

Why does everyone think that college basketball is better prepared than overseas pro ball?

Did Yao Ming teach us something?

But it really doesn't matter as at the end of the day, whoever got the better player long-term benefited. Most if not all the GM realized that.

No no no. Francis is on a max contract. Detroit won't take on it and give up a potential superstar big man, that's Darko.

And if it's Anthony, why do we want to do it? Francis is better than Anthony now and will be AT LEAST as good if not continue to be better in the future.

    How about this?

We give MoT (PF) & Mobley (SG) to Indy for:

    Tinsley (PG)
    Bender (SF)
    Mercer (SG)

Get rid of one of our best players, and one of our highest contracts, pick up a PG, a replacement for Mobley, and a SF/PF type. The biggest problem with that is I don't really like EG & Bender together. We'd have to then go out and trade EG.

I think we'd have the guard positions taken care of. I really believe we just need 1 PF, so that Yao, Cato & the third person could fill the C/PF needs.

As far as everyone knows how the draft is gonna go 1-2-3, that's bull. You don't even know who's gonna have the first 3 draft picks yet!

    No one likes ben wallace??!?

i'd trade cat and griffin for ben wallace in a heartbeat.

had to edit this since wallace is an 'untouchable'.

hmmmm lets see.....i'd take billups. good point guard. it's sad b/c of how they're playoff teams yet i would take only a few of those 2 teams' players....

Folks, these are the Darko ages for any of us who have never seen him play. I hadn't seen Yao and thought, 'what if' as in what if he's just tall? Trade him for good and safe quantities. I was WRONG. I won't make the same mistake with Darko. Until I have seen him compete for a while on this stage I dare not cpompare him to Melo or LBJ. Or Yao. Or Cato, for that matter.
