Woo...what a delay. I still prefer Civ3 because of some gameplay quirks (less need for airforce, easier diplomacy, broken in build patterns), but Civ4 is much much quicker to finish and it's so seemless that you can't tell what they cut too much. Whereas sometimes I spend weeks playing huge maps on Civ3, I can finish a session in days. I haven't played too much though, so I haven't been able to exploit the new added stuff yet.
I haven't played AoE, but I have heard good things about it. I just started with the Civ franchise, and I have never been let down, so I guess I just stayed loyal. I wish I could be more help, and I hope somebody answers you. Because if I am totally missing out I would love to know.
With Civ, you take turns to make your moves, so it's like a giant game of Risk. If you like RTS like AoE, try out the Age of Mythology series. Former AoE developers jumped ship to make that game.
Have any of you built your own comp before? I am about to order all my parts in a few days, i was wondering if i should get a sound card, or stick with the onboard sound. The computer will be used for light gaming/internet use mainly. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Many people are satisfied with the nForce series when it comes to gaming, so I'd save the 50 or so bucks for a card that would match its quality and get more RAM with it.... Audiophiles = rich
I would definitely save some money and go with the onboard sound. I just built a new one over the holidays and got an ASUS micro ATX board to use in an Aspire Q-pack SFF case. I don't have a whole lot of room where I put the computer, so I just bought a pair of BOSE 2.0 desktop speakers. They sound great. There are a lot of Intel boards out there that have onboard high-def sound. I haven't heard them yet, but I've heard that they sound great. Now, having said all that..if I were building a machine for nothing BUT gaming and money wasn't an issue...I'd order one of those new X-Fi cards...probably the Fatal1ty.
Thanks, both of you guys, I was thinking that I can always just try the onboard sound, if i dont like it enough or have problems with it, I can always just order a sound card later. Thanks.
Im pretty sure not many people on the board play this, but I've been playing Falcon 4.0: Allied Force. Its a near-realistic F-16 Flight sim.
