In soccer they have an advantage rule- if you have a break away or similar situation the ref lets the game play on if the foul does'nt stop the break away etc. - the NBA needs this bad! think of all the bad as$ dunks we've missed because of a touch foul at half court. also Flop = Foul and the Refs have to keep their whistles in their pockets- (i'm thinking of about 10 jokes I can't post):p

They do have a breakaway rule in basketball. I believe it is two free throws and the ball. The guy could go on to dunk it after the whistle if he wanted, it just wouldn't count.

Ya i've seen that called- but my point is the excitment of the game-how often are there break-away dunks and how frustrating is it when they are stopped because of a slap- the ref could hold off on the whistle until after the dunk- and it gets tricky here- scoring team gets the ball- or they get a couple of free throws- the max pts. a team could pick-up is 5 with the ball or 4 with FTs -the current rule allows for a 5 pt play.

    Excellent point!
IMO, Reggie has been the best at it for the past 10 years, or at least in the top 3.

And to add to the flopping issue.......you should receive a technical IMO.
Earn your money and play some defense.

    So far, many great ideas.
I actually think that 20 second shotclock proposal has a possiblity of becoming a reality in the next few years.

What would be the point of having divisions then?

What is the point of divisions though.......especially if one conference has more of the dominant teams.
If the League wants divisions, make it random like how Soccer handles the World Cup.

Think about that hard transition for college players. There used to playing at 35 seconds. I know of some teams that wait until the 6 second mark to do anything with the ball. That's pretty difficult if you're not used to it. Maybe a 4-8 month transition in playing in games iwth the new rule for the rookies.

Then again, the NBA is going for High Schooler's, whom have no shot clock, so go figure on that rule change.

Widen the lane, the international one is better.

Widen the court about 4 feet and move the 3 point shot to 23'9" all the way around. (Currently 22ft in the corners and 23'9" at the top).

Call palming/carrying, traveling and 3 seconds as they are written in the rule book.

Forget the "NO ZONE" rules, just let any type of zone be legalized.
