According to Draftexpress this part of the CBA changed slightly.

    http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1065

    "D. Maximum Player Salaries

As under the prior CBA, in the first year of a new contract a player may receive the greater of 105% of the player’s prior salary, or:
    • 0-6 years of service: 25% of Salary Cap ($12 million this year).
    • 7-9 years of service: 30% of Salary Cap ($14.4 million this year).
    • 10 or more years of service: 35% of Salary Cap ($16.8 million this year).

The maximum player salaries will continue to be based on a 48.04% of BRI Salary Cap (not on the new, higher Salary Cap). "

The max for next year should be very close to 12M for Yao & Amare. So 5 years at starting salary of 12M would be $72.6M (converted to Yuan that is CNY 588,060,000  ) Take away taxes, agent fees, Chinese BBall Assoc "fees", Chinese govt cut and Yao is left with $1.32 :D

right, those are the numbers I got also.(the total amount..less the raises..so it should be a little higher) ;)

    BUT

your contract length info *appears* to be incorrect...see my post right above yours. for a player re-signing with his team, the max length is 6 years.

I thought that too until someone corrected me (Nike maybe). Yao already has 1 more year on his current contract so this would be a 5 year max extension for a total contract of 6 years into the future.

I think the max contract starts after this year even though it is signed this summer. so it is six years after this coming year. However, I could be wrong.

You are correct the max part starts next year but if he signed a 6 year deal then he would be under contract for 7 future years.

"The maximum length of any contract drops from seven years to six. "

If Yao waits until next summer he can sign a 6 year extension, but he risks injury.

i dont think you guys should worry about yao's contract..noone else in his class has renewed their contract so there is no need for concern..when amare gets re-signed to the max...then we should see yao do the same at approx the same time..

grr..i still think they shouldve shared the rookie of the year award ..just like stevie francis and elton brand? did awhile ago.

so is Yao a RFA right now? I think I heard someone mention Yao is under contact for one more season?

    This season?

I wonder what the hold up is.. plus I havent heard anything about Amare's extension. I wonder what would happen if Yao was offered only close to max deal and saw Amare get a full max deal.

I might be off base, but I don't see Clutch going for this.
