Verlander is the TOR arm we need next season, hopefully he’s healthy and interested in returning…if he comes back, woah boy our rotation is NICE. Hopefully that 66m for nothing has him feeling a bit loyal to Crane and the Stros organization.
I overall agree, but there are 2 BIG factors to consider; really 3. 1. Returning from TJS, a big unknown 2. How will JV do without the sticky stuff? Not implying he used, but I think it is safe to question ALL pitchers pre- and post- sticky stuff. 3. Age, he will be 39 on Opening Day next year I think the talent is there, and always has been there, so I am not necessarily betting against him. I just don't know that if I were Crane, that I would be on him.
yeah I agree, he’s obviously not a shoe-in…lots of concerns…just saying, if he can return to form, then we would be so so so set.
Justin Verlander and Forrest Whitley are coming back next year from Tommy John Surgery. Lance McCullers Jr. has been really good this year coming back from Tommy John Surgery.
How was McCullers last year? Yeah he's good this season but he had 1 season to recover from tjs. Will Verlander be good next season or will he need a season of pitching to get back to being good?
Wonder if he'd come back on a Clemens half season type of deal if we're contending in June/July next year.
It would not shock me if he ends up doing this if Houston issues a QO. I think it’s unlikely since Houston won’t issue a QO unless they’re confident he will be ready for opening day, in which case Verlander will want to pitch. But if he won’t be ready until May-Jun and Houston still puts a QO on him, he might just wait it out. I still think Houston is his most likely landing spot; chance for another ring, familiarity, payroll flexibility, and rotation depth to be able to limit his innings. But if not I think he ends up on the West Coast or back in Detroit.
Bummer about Verlander being shelved for the rest of the year. it is very intriguing to see him get resigned. But it’s gonna be up to Verlander if he wants to be here.
If he wants another ring, stating with this team is the best route. But he might also want to retire as a Tiger.
He’s on record saying he’s pitching till age 45 or beyond… plenty of time to make it back to Detroit.
I would hope there’s a nodding agreement between Verlander/Crane that he’s going to pitch again for Houston if anywhere. Otherwise, posting videos, during a game, of you doing pool dives while you’re on the IL and making 33mil is pretty tone deaf to say the least. JV could really help out this team just by being there, and I’m kind of dumbfounded that we haven’t heard of him helping or mentoring in any way…who knows, maybe he is helping behind the scenes? Or maybe he’s barred from facilities/certain things since he’s in he IL? Just seems odd but I digress…
