Shandon does not want the max. What he does want is a decent contract. That's why the mentioned Bir Rights are so important. If we want to keep both Maurice Taylor and Shandon Anderson, we need to get at least the latter under Bird Rights. That's why, at the end of the season, we need to find a way to lock him for a one year contract (by either opting for last year or signing him to new one year deal which would pay him more).
That way, we will be able to sign Maurice for a contract around $8 million.

We don't want noth guys at the maximum. What we do want is to make these guys happy as long as their demand are reasonable. Shandon is obviously the most so out of the two, so I think it's likely that he'll stick around for one more year after this upcoming season.

Also, remember one thing. Just because we speak of getting a player under Bird Rights doesn't necessarily mean that we'll give him the maximum.

    Lil Francis,

First of all, I don't think Maurice feels the love for the team as strongly as most. Remember, he came here because it was one of his last options, and I guess he liked Houston the best out of those. But, I don't think he thinks of the Rockets as his team just yet. I don't know what one season can do, though. Steve Francis, after one season, is already eager to sign a 'lifetime contract.'
If he does, he will certainly 'settle' for the $8 or so million we have. By your suggestion, I would assume a minimum contract would be a a pay cut for the team. However, I highly doubt that Webber will go for anything below the maximum. He certainly won't go for the $6 or so million we would have left if Mo does sign for the minimum.

If Kenny Thomas does improve, we have his Bird Rights and so we can sign him for anything we please.
I just feel we need to secure both Shandon and Maurice, which can happen only if Anderson opts for the last year of his contract or if the Rockets negotiate a deal till we have his Bird Rights.

Man, comparing Cuttino to Shandon using Cat's rookie contract (as a second rounder) is just idiotic. It simply doesn't work that way.
Shandon Anderson was equal to Cat or better, IMO. As Rocketman95 said, Shandon took less money to come here and he probably deserves to be rewarded. We were lucky with Cuttino, as he felt the love for the team and appreciated the fact that the Rockets had faith in him from the beginning.

How could we get Nowitzki if Cuban is willing to shell out anything to keep his good players? No way he comes here.

We should just sign Francis to an Extension
next season and don't risk him becoming a free agent. He says he would like to sign a life time contract but when The Wizzards (home town) Lakers or Portland throws all that money in his face he may be tempted to leave. I know the Rockets can match any offer but he may feel LA or Portland has a better shot at the title. I say we lock him up way before he becomes a F.A.

Faulk is Mo T.'s agent, or rather Mo T. is a Faulk client. So really I expect Mo T. to go where the money is. He will want the max cause the free agent market will be weak next year. But I dont think Rudy T and CD are going to let them faulk the Rockets.

We're definitely picking our final piece (small forward) out of next year's draft, not to mention our back-up center.....

I say this is Walt's last year and we should get rid of his contract if we get Shane Battier or Terrence Morris..

As for Shandon and MO, obviously, there's no one to pick up in next year's free agent class, so MO and Shandon(if he opts out) are 2 of the top 6 free agents next year...Keeping them will be a HUGE achievement....13.5 million, mo gets 8m or 8.5m, shandon gets 4.5 million...If we wanna add pieces, we have 1 million cap space, the minimum, the mid level exception.....then the next year, Shandon signs long term with bird rights.....
It's not easy to find 2 perfect pieces, already used to the system, which is why I think Shandon should get 5.75 (after bird rights), and Mo should get 8.5 (next year).......

    Our Line-up

    Cato/Collier/draft pick
    Taylor/Thomas
    Langhi/draft pick/Shandon
    Shandon/Mobley
    Francis/Norris

OH, if not the remaining one million cap space, Moochie should take the 2.25 mid level exception next year......

Generally agree with Franchises' Team, but we may need to account for an intangible.

If the team jells and has good chemistry and the season ends on a high point (for example - 7th or 8th seed and taking the 1 or 2 to 5 hard fought games) perhaps Mo and/or Shandon may make additional short-term concessions moneywise.

Regarding Mo T, we are realistically competing with teams that:
    A) need/want a PF (and don't want/need Mutombo)
    B) can AFFORD a top tier PF (within cap limits)
    C) lose out in the CWebb sweepstakes

Combine the intangibles with the above points and I can see the possibility of Mo taking a 3 year deal for about $20M ($6M for year 1). He will still be very young when the contract is over.

Shandon's off court smarts are equal to his on court smarts. He will do the right thing (stay with the Rocks for about Mobley's $).

Shandon and Cat bring different things to the table and I respect each of their games.

I'll be very excited about our future if this is our core for years to come:

    Mobley, Francis, Taylor and Anderson.

We'll be in the championship hunt in 2 years.

According to KHTK-1140 in Sacramento, C-Webb says he wants to play in New York.

    One question...

How in God's name will we get Webber to sign with us? Specially when there are about 9 teams that can offer him more that us.
