right here. seen him live 2x. first time was before he became super popular at the Verizon theater downtown. interesting to hear his music mature.
i enjoy his music. kinda depends on my mood like with most music, but i can always appreciate the talent even if i don't feel like hearing it. saw him live in '04 i think it was.. very good
Like others have said, dude is an amazing guitar players. Even though I dont like his music all that much, can still appreciate the talent. I think really he took the right route, he prob figured the only way to hit it big and jump start his career was to make some poppy/catchy tunes. I dont know, thats just what i was thinking, i could be completely wrong though. I saw an interview though and hes said hes always loved blues like Clapton.
also forgot to mention that he is amazing live went to his Rodeo Concert in 2004, then his concert at Woodlands like a few months after that. btw, for those who went to the Woodlands show, you can buy it as a live album on Itunes and saw it at Walmart's music download site.
I love John Mayer. He's so smooth and his vocals are always great when I want to unwind. He's also great on the guitar. So I guess you could call me a fan. I 've never seen him live though and I really want to because I hear he's awesome.
Yeah I think he was selling out to make it in the biz too. He's a blues guitarist by heart (and a real good one at that), but hey if I had to write sappy songs to get somewhere, I'd do it too. His albums after that first pop one are all blues-based. Selling out is the key to success.
I am a John mayer fan originally by proxy, through my wife. She is such a big fan that she feels like she has the right to criticize his relationship with Jessica Simpson. She thinks she is wrong for him. We have every album, at one point recently the six disk changer in my car was all John. I have seen him in concert 3 times, my wife has seen him 8 or 9 times. She has traveled to "see friends" around the country when John happens to be playing in their town. L.A., Minneapolis, Phoenix, New York, etc. I think he is great guitarist and he puts on one hell of a live show. (You know if Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton are saying you are a good guitarist, you are doing something right.) The last show we went to my wife had just seen him in Orange County, CA and he played after Sheryl Crow. We were late to see him at the Woodlands and he played first. We missed 4 of his songs and by playing first it meant he would not be doing an encore. My wife was absolutely crushed. To this day, if Sheryl Crow or one of her songs come on, her immediate reaction is "shut up b****." He he.

This is true. I have some recordings of when he was in high school and he covered a lot of SRV's music, Hendrix, Clapton, Buddy Guy, etc. Here's a pretty cool Hendrix "Machine Gun" cover: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-m6ObIK5IBM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-m6ObIK5IBM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
So we are watching the red carpet pre-show for the Grammy's and John Mayer starts talking to Ryan Seacrest. Ryan asks if he and Jessica Simpson are indeed dating. John Mayer answers the question... in Japanese. E! later translates it and he said "She is a beautiful girl... and you will be the last to know." LOL
