sounds cool, I likem cheap too. Yeah that lit album was well done, solid all around even though it did take me awhile to get really into it. It's in regular rotation for me now. Didn't know that Beck was coming out with a new album. Sounds interesting. DCkid, your enthusiasm is infectious. Queens of the Stone Age sounds promising just from the band members you listed alone. Chris Cornell is one of my fav lead singers, but I'm not too sure him and Rage music mix too well. I'm curious, but I'll wait to buy til I know how it turns out.
I actually heard this CD was getting pushed back a while due to some lawsuit with a company that owns some technology that was used on the cd. here is a link
November 23rd is the release of the Double CD of 2pac.. Also there is a cd of Daz Dillinger and 2pac to come out..
Just out of curiosity...is Jurassic 5's new album out yet. It says it came out October 8, but I just wondered if anyone already had it and whether it was any good?
I just listened to Cochise and it kicked major aaaasssssss!!!!! God, it sucked that Cornell and them split up after one album, I hope they get back together. Man, when you listen to it, it just sounds so much like Robert Plant is singing. These guys could be the Zeppelin of the new Milleneum. Great guitarist and a great singer, how can you top that? There's one song I heard, I downloaded it and I guess it didn't make it to the album, I'm not sure what it was called but the chorus is "May all your wishes turn to gold, to have and hold." edit: I guess I was wrong. I know it was reported that they broke up, but they just filmed a video together recently on stage in LA. Man, Rock music is back and in full force.
Crisco, if you like Queens of the Stone Age you'll love Kyuss. It's difficult to say who exactly is in the band. The singer-guitarist, Josh Homme, and bassist, Nick Oliveri, from Kyuss started the band along with Alfredo Hernandez, the drummer from the last Kyuss album. Both groups are what is being labeled as stoner rock. Check the Family Tree at the QOTSA website and you'll see what I mean. http://www.qotsa.com/index_main.html
Hey DC, I have been recommended numerous times by Amazon, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". What artists are similar to Wilco?? Blur, Oasis, Coldplay?? Or someone else like Beck or Jeff Buckley or someone else?? Thanks for the help. Also, what is your opinion of Pete Yorn and "Musicforthemorningafter" (you may not know about this CD)?
Oh and one other thing: I have no idea when it is coming out, but Billy Corgan's new band, Zwan, is supposed to release their debut CD sometime this year. I HIGHLY anticipate that release.
Ever heard of Son Volt or Uncle Tupelo, Manny? Actually, Wilco used to be more alt-country, now there much more alt than country.
Those names don't ring a bell for me, RM95. I am going to read some of the reviews on Amazon to see if I could find some artist that Wilco is "supposedly" similar to.
The J5 album "Power In Numbers" drops Monday October 7th at true HipHop spots and on the 8th everywhere on CD, I heard. If you want the 2LP it drops early this Friday on October 4th. I got a promo of "What's Golden" and its a good cut. "High Fidelity" is also another single I got of this album, Its bangin also..........The album seems very J5 Swing/Jazz vocal harmony type stuff, its what they do best, and Numark and Cut Chemist are very talented producers with a unique sound and sample knowledge. Oh, almost forgot, they are also releasing a behind the scenes dvd type thing free with the album. Probably for the first X amount of copies. Guest shots on it.... Big Daddy Kane JuJu of the Beatnuts Nelly Furtado Percee P
Man, hard to say who they're similar to, because every albums been different and some of their songs cross different genres. But theirs definitely some Radiohead-ish qualities to the new one, which I know you like. Just to give you an idea, you know how Radiohead has had problems with their label because they're "not accessible" enough? Wilco had the same problem, but they're label completely dropped them and refused to release Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. So, they were searching for another label to release it, and it turns out the label that released it is a subsidiary of the original label that dropped 'em! So in essence, the label paid for the same album twice...now that's what you call "stickin' it to the man"! There's even a documentary that came out a couple months ago about Wilco's plight to get the album released...I haven't seen it yet. Personally, I think the fact that a major label dropped them is reason enough to get the album. But if you need more...they used to be kind of alternative/country guitar rock, but they've slowly gotten more experimental and added more and more instruments and sounds, and Yankee Foxtrot Hotel is the pinnacle. They still have some "country-twang" and there's actually still a lot of steel guitars being used, but they've added a lot more to it. Jeff Tweedy, their singer, has a raspy voice, but it always seem to crack at the perfect time. I strongly reccomend it! and that's about all I got...hope it helped. ...oh as for Pete Yorn, I remember hearing about him, but haven't heard his music. Good? Also, I was wondering if you've heard of Clinic or Sigur Ros, two of Radiohead's favorite bands? Sigur Ros' new album comes out the 29th.
I hear Justin Timberlake's album is coming out soon. From what I've heard ,the Neptunes did 8 songs and Timbaland did 4. With that kind of production he cant go wrong.
Hey Freak, here are a couple of audio files to listen to: http://www.formofrocket.com/audio.htm I'm bad at labels, but they have been described w/ the following: instrumental sort of, kinda spazzcore/screamo/mathy whatever. Frodus, Shotmaker, Shellac, Red Scare, Ratt- somewhere in between all that. Although I like all of those bands, I'm wary of comparisons... just click on those audio tapes down at the bottom... Nothing really compares to seeing a band live (which I will forever remember by having bands I didn't think much of... Ministry eg, rip me a new one). Just listen to it loud. It's definitely spazz-core (if that's not a real genre it should be) kinda less emo sort of stuff. If you don't like it, call me an idiot and all of that... but I think it friggin' rocks.
You can go wrong with the Neptunes and Timbaland if Justin Timberlake is the singer. Now those guys minus that fool, that is a bad ass tandem. N. E. R. D. and Timbaland, sounds good to me.
DC, Thanks for the response. I'll look at getting that Wilco album sometime next month. Also, I forgot about The Queens of the Stone Age! I have heard of Sigur Ros but just know that one CD of theirs called Agaetis Byrjun. There are just so many CDs out there that I need to get!
AH, I forgot to mention my most anticipated CD release since their last CD, matchbox twenty's "More Than You Think You Are." The lead single, "Disease," is awesome and I can't wait for the album, which drops on the 19th of November!
Nas drops "God's Son" in November. I cant wait for that album to drop. If my memory serves me correctly Jay-Z drops "Blueprint 2" on the same day for some competiton to see who sells the most records. Me personally I'm getting Nas' album 1st. I'll get Jay's later.
Okay, I got some of my new stuff and I have listened to them enough to comment. Let me first say that it is very damn close between "Sea Change" by Beck and "Up" by Peter Gabriel as the top 2 CDs that I have bought this year that came out this year. "Up" is a dark (for the most part) and brooding masterpiece. Don't be expecting to hear "Sledgehammer" or anything like that. If you are familiar with PG's 3rd self-titled CD aka Melt or Melting Face, then you will find, or at least I think you will, that "Up" is a very similar album to Melt. The first track on "Up" is a weird one to say the least but brilliant. "Growing Up", "I Grieve", and "The Barry Williams Show" are other favorite tracks, but the two best tracks are "Sky Blue" and "More Than This". Both tracks features background vocals by The Blind Boys of Alabama and they do an outstanding job. Almost all of the tracks are over 5 minutes long except for the last track. And this is not a radio, pop friendly CD, but it is brilliant, nonetheless. If you enjoy PG like I do, then this is a must-have CD. But if you don't like "Passion", "PG3", "Security", and only like stuff like "So", then you might want to pass on "Up". "Sea Change" by Beck is everything people have said it was and then some. My favorite tracks right now are the first 2. I love how Beck just cuts all the crap out and sings. Don't get me wrong...I loved "Odelay", but an artist can sometimes overdo it with samples and "going all out eclectic". Here, you can tell Beck is on a mission and is very focused. This CD blows "Mutations" out of the water & "Mutations" was a damn good CD. Nigel Goodrich definitely adds to the lushness and richness of this album. However, this album like "Up" takes several listens to appreciate and also like "Up" is not a radio-friendly one. Yet it very well may be the album of the year. As for the other stuff, I got, here are quick blurbs about them: "A Hundred Days Off" by Underworld - One of the top techno/electronica groups out there. This is their first CD in some time (first since "Beaucoup Fish"). I still don't see how they can ever top "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" and "Second Toughest in the Infants", but I do think this album is better than "Beaucoup Fish". It was a worthy purchase. "The Isness" by Future Sound of London - This was my 3rd FSOL CD along with "Lifeforms" and "Dead Cities". This CD is nothing like those 2. There were some really good tracks and there were others that didn't hold my attention. I probably really need to listen to it another 3 or 4 times before really making a final decision on it, but right now, I would advise maybe downloading some tracks or borrowing a copy before buying. I am not saying that I regret buying it, but I am a little different from most people in that I will buy something without really listening to it ahead of time. Those on a limited budget may want to proceed with caution on this one. And finally there was this gem of a CD: "Conjure One" by Conjure One - The debut CD of a new project started by Rhys Fulber. Fulber used to team with Bill Leeb in making up the Industrial group, Front Line Assembly (FLA), and also ambient-techno group, Delerium. He left Leeb after "Karma" and I think the last FLA CD before "Implode". A couple of people had said that "Conjure One" was a lot like "Poem". I disagree with that. I think "Conjure One" is more like "Semantic Spaces". There were vocal tracks including an amazing one by none other than, Sinead O'Connor , but not every track was a vocal one like the ones on "Poem". I also think that "Conjure One" was more of a traditional ambient/techno/world music CD in the realms of an Enigma, Delerium's 2 CDs of Semantic Spaces & Karma, and Oldfield's "Songs of the Distant Earth". "Conjure One" doesn't immediately grab you like "Karma" did, but it starts to grow on you like "Semantic Spaces". If you can, get the limited edition which comes with a bonus CD that features several pretty good mixes of songs on the CD. If you liked "Semantic Spaces" and "Karma" by Delerium, then you will enjoy this album. However, like "Up" and "Sea Change", you'll have to give it several spins before appreciating it, or at least that is what I had to do.
