    I know this is a random bump, but I think I decided on the Surly Long Haul Trucker. I'm gonna customize it and everything. I should have it in October.

    Unfortunately, I couldn't afford the trip this spring, but I'm doing it next Spring or Summer. I'll have all my gear set by then.

    I know someone that is just finishing up his trip across the US.

    So I'm probably getting the Long Haul Trucker in the next few days. I need to get a larger frame so I'm ordering online (I'm 6'6")

    Before I do, anyone want to talk me out of it? My budget is around $1500.

    Ordering it yourself online, or is a shop ordering it for you? Assuming you know and order your correct frame size, you should still get a shop to fit the bike to you. Comfort is probably one of the top priorities for a ride like this.
