No reason except that the company that had an operating amusement park in Houston didn't see enough of a financial return to think that doing it was worthwhile.

that's all I really got out of the OP.

that being said, Houston needs a new theme park.

    keep the dinosaurs out.

how would residents feel about bringing Mickey and Minnie in?

I agree the city needs an amusement park, but for me, getting away to Florida or California is necessary when it involves Disney World/Land.

It's funny, most of the people upset about Astroworld going under (myself included) haven't actually gone there since the 80's.

I remember that my decision to take high school physics was partly based on being able to go to "Physics Day" at Astroworld. The park closed six months before the event. This is my life.

I remember doing that. Fortunately it was still open when I was in school.
I also worked at Astroworld for awhile in high school. I sold foot long chili dogs and couldn't eat a hot dog for a year after that.

Six Flags is going strong since they came out of bankruptcy. I recently took a group to "Math & Science Day" at Magic Mountain.

you get half price admission and all you have to do is participate in an egg drop contest...

the original Six Flags Over Texas isn't even controlled by Six Flags anymore.

You would have to have a VERY LONG train to get from Astroworld to where the Astros play now

If you find a way to stop it from being the 10-17 year old hood rat hangout then yes, bring it back.

Why doesn't Landry's just build one already? They've already got a little monopoly on the Houston area touristy attractions

    -Pleasure Pier
    -Kemah Boardwalk
    -Downtown Aquarium

2 of which have real roller coasters. Haven't been on either though, but real roller coasters are always so much better than those carnival rides that only go in circles

They're really good at those themed restaurants (Bubba Gump & Rainforest Cafe) and could probably do the theme thing well on a bigger scale

Bubba Gump is HORRIBLE. That is not a testament to their skills.

Pretty stupid comment to make about MY thread, since you bothered to make a cohesive reply anyway.

This is the complaint that I heard from people who had young kids during the few years before it was shut down.

The last memory I have of Astroworld is of some kid that was shot in the head at the corner of 610 and Fannin...Everyone would go to McDonalds and there would be fights under the bridge or at McDonalds. When Selena was in concert there were fights all over the place...crazy times.
