Howard is gone. He probably likes Houston the city but the organization he is done with. He will sign for the max money somebody will pay him. I don't hate Howard. I wish him the best wherever he goes. He signed with us and spurned the Lakers. I will always remember that fondly. Plus he helped take us further into the playoffs than anybody had done in nearly two decades.
He has repeatedly stated he will not opt in. It's what made trades with other teams so difficult. They wanted him as a rental before taking a chance on signing him to a big contract.
According to @RicBucher, Dwight Howard is exploring his options and could potentially make a return to the Magic 9:24 AM - 25 Mar 2016 Please make it so!
Bucher's cred is in the toilet. BUT, Orlando does make sense from a roster point of view and they have the cap room for it. The question is, will Orlando take him back? Orlando has room for 2 max players. They COULD offer contracts to BOTH Howard....and Chandler Parsons.
There were also reports/tweets/rumors at the deadline that Dwight was offended the Magic wanted no part in him returning, and thought he would be welcomed back. Dwight just doesn't really make sense for the Magic pups unless they take a huge shift in roster building to veterans. Are they going to move Vucevic to the 4? Is Vucevic or Dwight coming off the bench? Will they be trading Vucevic? The Magic are one of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the NBA.... how in the world is that a great fit to give Dwight room to breath in the paint? Look, Dwight needs suitors regardless of questions, and fit. He just wants to get paid, and not look like a jacka#$. I don't doubt that Dwight's rep will reach out to Orlando (again), but like before its looking like a LOOOOOONNNNGGGG Shot. (Oh and Ric Bucher the disgraced former ESPN hack has less than zero credibility among the respected reporters around the league. His rumors & tweets should NOT be taken seriously).
Yeah, Where is playoff Dwight? This guy according to McHale gets over losing very quickly does not have the mentally to be a dominate player all season long. He cares more about having a good time all the time.
Dboro, Orlando DOES want to shift to getting some vets. I don't know if DH is a target, but they want to pepper the roster with some vets.
He will opt out because he believes rightly or wrongly that someone will offer him more than 22 mill for 1-year.
I just don't see any team offering him 20+ for multiple years. This is why he will opt in: no teams wanting him.
