Bingo - Dallas could not get the players they wanted, so they made a trade that got them pieces for the next trade.

ESPN : MAVS Boost their Roster (What are the ROCKETS DOING?)

The Rockets aren't doing crap! While the MAVS boost up their roster with Antonie Walker and Delk. They got rid of their loser Center LaFrentz and two junk Mills and Welsch from Golden State trade! Now they are just making it harder for the Rox to come thru!  The Rockets need to do SOMETHING if they want to CONTEND!

I think your over reacting rockets got what it takes to make tha playoffs & u cant compair teams with Dallas becuase they have a crazzy owner who dosnt care about moneyy but tha fact of tha matter is we dont so all we do is wait and let the trades come to us kinda like we did with JJ.

We are trying to build chemistry with a talented starting lineup and a solid veteran bench.

We are not trying to build a large ego moltav coctail.

FYI, we are not going to contend for a title this year. There is about ZERO chance of us making it to the WC championship and there is the same number of reasons to re-tool our squad NOW in order to make a move. We need to come together as a team, learn how to play as a team, and develop some chemistry. Next year or the year after, those teams (Lakers, Mavs, Wolves) are going to have to disband for salary reasons and we will be in perfect position to pick up guys to put us over the top.

    Patience, grasshopper.

Yes the Rockets have done nothing at all this offseason, they've only got a new coach and got rid of about half their roster. What a bunch of do-nothing dummies. We'll never get past Dallas in the WCF's like we were supposed to.

Actually, I don't see this last trade helping Dallas.

True that! We need to build chemistry first of all with what we have and we have a solid looking veteran bench who know what their roles will be this year to contend for a champoinship.

We dont need all the all-stars high-profile w/egos on our team. We have a solid nucleus that includes Yao and Francis. We dont need all the high-profile names on our team to contend with them. JVG will use this current ROX lineup to the best of his coaching ability and experience.

Take a look down memory lane and vision the '95 NBA Champs..............the HOUSTON ROCKETS. We had 2 proven all-stars but they were surrounded with good chemistry and great role-players.

This trade sucks for Dallas. They already had a contending team. If anything, this will disturb their team chemistry. Traded a center, which they needed, for another forward. No reason to do that.

Now, Shawn Bradley is their center and Yao will tear them a new hole.

With Bradley as their only center, Cato could tear them a new hole.

Please! Antoine Walker is NOT the answer for the Mavs. Now their entire frontline is horrible defenseively. LaFrenz sucked, but now who is gonna start at the C spot? Dirk? Shaq, Yao, Duncan, and even Kani would love to see that. They don't have a true SF or a true PF and Shaw freakin Bradley is their true C. They are doing the same thing they were doing last year, and thats have a ton of offense and absolutely no defense, no rebounding, and no intesity. Thats not gonna help them against offensively talented teams like the Lakers, Kings, Spurs, and hell even the Rox when they get their stuff together. They will win their 50 games but there is no way in hell the Mavs are winning the ship anytime soon.

Rebounding is more than actually getting the rebound yourself, it's keeping your opponents off the boards. All those guys average decent in the rebound dept b/c they each play 40 minutes a nite & are constantly being taken into the paint b/c they can't defend people there. It doesn't parlay into any 1 of the 3 being good rebounders. I do however believe Dirk to have good effort on the glass if not ability.

This trade is about getting rid of big fat bad contracts. It doesn't improve Mavs a bit. The only way Mavs can improve is trading one of its big three for a legitimate inside force. Too bad, they are not interested in cato, MoT, or EG.

Jamison is one of the best rebounding SFs in the league because his solid size for a 3 and athleticism make him one of the best rebounding SFs in the league--not simply because of his PT.

The Mavs also have Forston and Najera as enforcers, and well above average rebounders for their positions. So with Dirk as an adequate rebounder, Walker as an adequate rebounder, Finley and Jamison as very good rebounders for their positions--plus those dirty/gritty subs--they should be fine on the boards. Couple more points: Walker has very good court vision--nice to have on a team with the Mavs weapons and ball movement. Also, don't forget Delk--not a bad poor mans Van Exel as a 9th man.

This is not my favorite Mavs move this offseason but I still like it. Man I wish we had an owner like Cuban, whose priority is clearly getting the most talent and putting forth the best team he has within his control. Instead we are stuck with an owner who wants to put out the most marketable (just mediocre enough so the fans don't get completely alienated because many of them don't see it happening) product that makes the most money for him.

    Stylez,
LaFrentz has not been starting for them at the center spot this pre-season. Fortson has been starting for them and playing very well so far.

Dirk is as good of a small forward as there is in the league if not the absolute best on the offensive end. Yes he is lacking on the defensive end.

The Mavs starting line-up will be (as of today):

    Fortson
    Dirk
    Jamison
    Finley
    Nash

Outstanding rebounding and offensive group but only so-so on the defensive end. Still, who is going to keep up with that group when the offense is clicking.

After reading that quote it looks like we could see a lot of this offense with Dallas:

    Dirk
    Jamison
    Walker
    Finley
    Nash

Once again a very good rebounding group and probably the best offensive group in the NBA...easily. Not great defensively.

LaFrentz was a total waste of skin on the Mavs while Walker will come in and add another rebounder and scorer. He is also someone that can run the offense when Nash needs a rest.

Looking for defense and you will have to look at Travis Best and Josh Howard. Howard will be a stud in this league for years. They don't necdesarily help the post defense but they are both excellent perimeter defenders.

These moves were brought to the Mavs fans by an owner that buts winning above all else. Unlike Les Alexander. As a Rockets fan I am very jealous and wish Cuban owned the Rockets.

Mark Cuban is a Billion, Billion, Billionair that wants to win a championship above all else. With the amount of money the Mavs already make this move is nothing. Cuban would spend 4 times this amount and never blink if it would win him an NBA championship.

Also I think this actually helps the Mavs with the salery cap because they no longer have the LaFrentz contract that goes on forever.

The trade will hurt Dallas. Walker is the most overrated player in the game. The guy shoots a low %, takes far too many 3s, appears to be out of shape, always has a cry baby face, and just flat out sucks. The only reason he ever averaged as many points as he did was because of how many shots he took at the expense of helping his team. This trade will give Pierce that many more shots to take. Shots that will be put to better use by Pierce then Walker could ever do.
