My goodness. How can everybody get their shots on that team? And how many threes do you think the Mavs will launch a night? Something like...30?
Good post, true. And to rothdaniel 'All I can say is I'll watch Dallas whenever there on T.V. They will be a fun team to watch!' Me, too -- maybe they'll push the NBA back into a funzone!
Wow. How many points will they average? I am not sure how Walker will flow with the starters, but I know he could carry a second unit like nobody's business.
My coworker, who drafted Walker in our fantasy league draft on Saturday, is not too happy right now. As the guy who selected Paul Pierce... I'm beaming from ear-to-ear.
try to change the game all you want...but when other teams in the playoffs slow down the tempo and play the post game...and you have nothing to stop them or even slow them down...you're done. the phoenix suns never won a championship with this model...though they tried hard. steady, balanced teams win championships. this mavs team has zero balance. they'll run through the regular season...just like last year...but get slapped in the playoffs...just like last year.
This team is unstoppable on paper. That may be terrific for playing NBA LIVE, but in real life Antoine may have an ego. If so, I wonder how he feels about not scoring 20+ this year.
Mark Cuban was a guest host on CNBC last week. He kept saying that basketball is first and foremost an entertaiment industry . Defense may win championships but offense sells tickets and merchandise. By the way he came off as an ethical and astute businessman, contrary to his courtside image.
Sefko said in his story: "Walker is a strong-scoring forward who could create a logjam in the front court - unless another deal is in the works." This may be a move to get a legitimate center since they now have the bulk of 48 trade hours left.
Ill be the first to say that Dallas will break the Bulls record of 72 Wins. I hope Im wrong I hate Dallas more than anybody else. But this team is sick, its just an amazing lineup. Sure they cant play defense but does it really matter win you have that kind of offense? 3 questions What heck was Golden State thinking? What the heck was Boston thinking? How long can Dallas afford this team?
I think you hit the nail on the head here. The Mavs are about being crowd-pleasers. With an offense like that, what's not to like? And, a great deal too; Boston should have at least gotten Finley out of the deal since they're doing Dallas a favor by taking Lafrentz (who, btw, may look a whole lot better in Boston than he did in the West).
there have been unbelievable scoring teams many times before...and those teams weren't necessarily title contenders. there have been teams that have slowed it down and won multiple championships. the bulls didn't win titles because they could score...they won titles when they committed to playing some defense and sharing the ball. these guys all play the same freaking position. yes..they have some great scorers playing. but so do the lakers, and they have proven winners on that team. and again...who the hell do they have to slow down duncan and/or shaq?
Wow. They have 4 SF's in their starting lineup -- Dirk, Finley, Jamison and Walker. I agree with the majority of the people here -- fun to watch, won't win in the playoffs. I want to see Dirk try to stop someone like Shaq or Yao. Dirk's known for his "Ole!" defense, and guarding a physical player will just make it that much more obvious.
if dallas stays pat w/ this lineup i predict that they will be worse off for it. van exel may have a bad attitude, but he had some heart and fire which dallas didnt always have. they are going to miss him more that they realize. antoine walker is not going to help these guys. a forward who shoots 38%. thats eddie griffin #'s and that aint going to cut the mustard in the WC. w/ van exel they had a solid backcourt...dont know now-who do they have to replace him? they also have too many forwards who are going to want to be on the floor and they have no center. too many chiefs and not enough indians...
Boston won this trade and Dallas is toying with dropping out of the sure top 3 in the West status. Boston cannot be happier getting Walker out as he is nothing more that a disruptive influence with a sickening passion for bringing up the ball and poor shot selection. Boston gets a PF who can rebound and block shots which is a need to go along with the resurgence of Vin Baker. He can also play center of course, especially in the east. Their point guards are young and exciting and will get the job done, regarding bringing up the ball and getting the offense going. Ainge knows what he is doing. On the Dallas end one may think that Walker's passion for throwing up ill-advised 3's fits right in with the Dallas culture but I do not think so. He is turnover prone and contribute very little or nothing to addressing the current weakness of the team. The team has gotten shorter in the West with much less shot blocking capabilities. I certainly do not see them being as competitive as they were before this trade.
They were talking about this trade on the 1300 The Zone morning show today. Bucky referred to the Mavs as the Texas Tech of the NBA.
Can Houston do a Trade with Dallas now that they have a logjam at SF: Dallas trades: SF Antawn Jamison (22.2 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 39.3 minutes) Dallas receives: PF Maurice Taylor (8.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 20.6 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) Change in team outlook: -9.5 ppg, -1.6 rpg, and +1.5 apg. Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (8.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 20.6 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) Houston receives: SF Antawn Jamison (22.2 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 82 games) Change in team outlook: +9.5 ppg, +1.6 rpg, and -1.5 apg. ************************************************* Due to Dallas and Houston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Dallas and Houston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
