Romans don't get a pass. However, Jews, if you read the bible, were responsible for his death because they are the people who facillitated the actions leading to his execution at the hands of the Romans.

All the persecution of Christians was not done by Romans. A lot of it was, but I think that since Romans eventually became the biggest supporters of Christianity they seem to have absolved themselves of their actions. Although, in reality Romans were more responsible for the persecution of early Christians, we all seem to remember that is was the Jewish people who had him killed and seems to be a greater injustice than the persecution of the Romans.

 

Sishir, the Gospels make it clear that while it was Pilate who more or less struck the killing blow, the Jewish people were the ones who essentially forced him to do it because of the mob mentality.

In the book of Acts which deals with the persecution of the Church after the resurrection of Jesus, the main persecutors are the members of the ruling Jewish body.

This does not mean Jews should get persecuted in return. we are simply reading the scriptures and its account of history. Almost all evangelical Christians are ardent supporters of Israel.

 

Well put. I have nothing against Jewish people, although I have a friend who's favorite insult is to call people Jews. His exchanges are always hilarious, if not mildly offensive.
