I have a friend who is Miccosukee. He says he doesn't see the name as a big deal because he associates it with a football team only. That being said, he said others in his tribe don't like the name.

The NFL needs to respond to it's market and yield on the name. It is an anachronism, an artifact of a different era. Times have changed and the culture, the market, and the policies in the institutions that systematize and regulate business practices has moved on.

Instead of co-opting the protest movement by changing the name to that of a particular tribe or so with a big hoopla and marketing campaign, the NFL and the Washington team are just stuck in the mud. Poor business vision.

Change or be changed. Innovate or get left behind. Disrupt or be disrupted. [INSERT PSUEDO-OBJECTIVIST BABBLE HERE] ;)

Law doesn't mean much anymore these days, at best it's used as a superficial pretense for coercion.

My complaint is destroying property rights at the point of a gun because someone is offended. It's scary, fascist stuff.

Cheer now, but someday they may find your property offensive, and come for it.

That's a nice way to avoid the question. We are a nation of laws, and we have a court system to interpret those laws. In the past, you've always seemed to demand strict adherence to those laws - now, when it doesn't fit your beliefs, you go this route. It's funny to see the hoops you go through when your actual beliefs don't fit those you profess in your ideals.

i tend to agree but the people who were against the name in the 30's were largely ignored and had very little citizen power. that's not the case anymore. maybe they shouldn't have ignored them.

also this ruling took almost 10 years and it wasn't the first either. the 1st patent case was over 20 years ago but lost on an appeal technicality.

Regardless if "Law doesn't mean much" (which is ironic, considering that you expend considerable energy decrying or supporting various laws and their enforcement & exectuiotn) you support a perpetual, state-enforced private monopoly on a designated piece of intellectual property?

The Redskins don't get it. The Sponsors will make them 'get it' pretty soon though after the release of that Memo though.

They are looking like Donald Sterling did.

Exactly, they fight and fight in support of an ethnic slur all the while looking worse and worse in the public eye.

They should stop fighting and change the name to 'Skins as a "proactive" approach and look like the heroes. More than likely it's already too late for that. Any change will look like it was forced.

Or they could go with Rednecks, it's similar and should be good with most of the folks that currently support Redskins.

I always thought "Natives" would be a cool nickname that would allow them to keep the logo.

If they wanted to ditch the logo, go with "Redtails" or "Renegades".
