    Have you read the Quran?

Parts of it. But I see what some of its followers do.

Why not? I wasn't the one who said I was taking my ball and going home. Of course, he keeps coming back to get schooled.

So it's enough to read "parts" of the Quran, and take what some of its followers do and condemn them?

Yet I can't know anything about this book even though I've read parts of it?

You know what's coming next right? I'm about to show you what some of Sarazin's ideology's followers do. So since some of the followers do certain things, and I have read the available parts of the book, can I condemn them then?

Sarrazin is not an ideologue. He is an economist. Very dry guy, not charismatic. He doesn't really have any followers. Nor does he want to start a political movement or something. So go ahead and try to show me what his "followers" do. As most of the time, you are on the wrong track.

Question, as far as free speech/free action type goes, you don't think it overlaps ,when often prayer itself is just speech and words, somtimes with bowing down and other times just with a rosary, could they not do that even in public if they are not bothering or imposing it on others? That goes for the burqua as well, while I see some might be forced, I know many who prefer to wear it and consider it equivalent to the 'burqua of the west' (they say that women here are forced to cover there faces and natural selves except with heavy make up, plastic surgery, and more of a permanent mask to accept who they are), but point being some feel comfortable and want to wear it and find it frees them from subjects of being judged as objects from men in the street, etc.

so doesn't 'banning' of these things contradict the idea of freedom so far as they don't do them in an imposing manner?

    You are evading the point.

He has followers when there are huge rallies in his support during his speech. It is a set of ideals that he is preaching about his vision for Germany and the failings of Germany.

But this is besides the point.

Do you admit that you have "read" the Quran in the same way I have "read" his book?

Do you admit that his supporters contain an unusually high number of bigots, particularly from Eastern Germany?

Don't weasel your way out of this just because you know I'm going to bring up your quote from when I asked you if you have read the Quran. Do you remember what you said?

Huge rallies? Where? He reads from his book and the audience is usually split into people who are for and against. Audience size maybe a few hundred at best. Where are these "huge rallies" you speak of?

I don't know any of his "supporters". And I do see your point about you reading the book/me reading the Quran - if you want to equate his book with the Quran - if you think they contain the same amount of wisdom and non-wisdom - seems like it because you are drawing the parallel here.

Completely disagree. The right for Muslims to pray in public is protected by the constitution - its called freedom of religion. Your statement makes me doubt whether you believe in it or not...

This was discussed in another thread. I do not doubt anyone's right to do it. That does not mean I cannot say that I do not like being exposed to it.

    Is that so?

There's not huge support for Sarrazin?

Oh and yes I am put it on the same footing. These books preach ideology. Whether it's his book or the Quran or The Secret. It gives instruction on the error in people's ways and how they should act accordingly. Sarrazin's book happens to apply to Germany, but I don't think you would dare insinuate that he doesn't think it should be applicable universally where the same problem exists. People who agree with the views in his book agree with his chosen ideology, much like Muslims agree with the ideology of their prophet.

Do you want to see his supporters now?

    My favorite supporters of Sarrazin..

Do you know who's statement this is? Do you know what they are known for? What does it mean when these guys are absolutely adoring the book?

Here is the translation for everyone else:

That's from the National Democratic Party of Germany, which fortunately doesn't yet have any real power in Germany, but is essentially the most Nazi party still in existence in the world today. Read about them here. They make tea-partiers look like they really just enjoy tea parties.

Perhaps you can enlighten us on your thoughts regarding his remarks about Jews.

His remarks about genes etc. were completely stupid, and he later admitted as much. He is an economist and is trying to make points about the economy and got in over his head when he started blabbering about genes and such nonsense.

As to the NPD, they are terrible people, racists and complete idiots. It is unfortunate that they try to claim he represents what they stand for, because he does not. Sarrazin hates them. I hate them.

The good news is that it is currently available in the U.S. from some website but it costs $50.

Coming April 1st 2011 though it is supposed to be available at Target and Toys R US for $29.95 under the name Doggie Doo. Talk about a good party game.

I'll take that as "yes there is an alarming amount of support for Sarrazin's views and I'm a hypocrite for saying I don't need to read the Quran to back up 90% of the things I've said on the D&D while insisting that you must read Sarrazin's book to know what you're talking about."

I'm also sure you are fully aware that Sarrazin is a very important member of the Socialist Democratic Party of Germany (unless he was booted), and given his recent fame and unusually high amount of support, he is not just an economist anymore.

How you can cling on to the fantasy that a guy who publicly discusses immigration based on genetics/ethnicity is just an economist baffles me. He was and is an economist, but that's not all he is anymore.

Sarrazin has joined the ranks of the growing ultra-nationalist figureheads in Europe. He will shortly realize that his career as an economist is beyond repair and will re-invent himself as a quasi-politician or a fully fledged politician. There's no doubt about it.

EDIT: btw, the chance to say what I said was so worth changing my mind about responding to you.

However, it is interesting that his random babbling just happened to be a bunch of crazy talk about genes and Jews.

I guarantee if you if I got in over my head and started babbling it wouldn't be about that.

It provides us some insight into his thinking.

I agree. That did strike me as very weird and it does give some insight into the fact that he has some weird thinking.

I will give you that. In fact, I can confirm that this is the truth. Because we see exactly that happening every day you post, and yes, you babble about other things :).

The party is called social democratic party, he is not an important member and never has been (he was a local politician in Berlin who was already known for making somewhat outlandish and populist statements).

Where did I say he is "just" an economist. That is his education and where he comes from. Not more, not less.

Yes, there is doubt about it, in fact, he has publicly stated that he has no ambitions to found a party or to lead such a movement. He lacks the charisma and ambition (at his age) to do something like that. He also lacks the motivation of racism that drove someone like Le Pen in France. He is probably prejudiced to some extent, but not enough to motivate him to start a "movement". He will write for some magazines, will tour the talk show circuit and will probably publish another book at some point that will make him a few more million. That'll be it.

These claims show ATW's basically irrational intolerance behind the occasional reasonable attempts at critiquing more fundamentalist versions of Islam.

Before we indict all Germans in a guilt by association for ATW's views we need to realize this is not true of all Germans.
