This kid really has talent. He's pretty much Perry Jones, before Perry Jones came along. I dunno if it has to do with his attitude or his surroundings, but the kid has talent. If we can sign him for cheap ($3 million per), he'd be worth the gamble. He might just need the right environment to cultivate his talent. At this point, the Rockets don't have anything to lose. We could use some more length and athleticism to go with some scoring ability at the 4 (though he plays like a 3). With that being said, maybe he needs some veteran guidance to fully mature as a human being, who knows. He's worth the risk and can be had for cheap.
Why would he sign for $3.5 for 2 years when he can simply sign his QO for over $4 million and be an UFA next season? I think there is a possible S&T available here. One of the reasons I'm bringing it up.
Well, you said "what's his value as an RFA?" in your original post. Maybe I simply stuck to, What's his value right now as a lost-in-the-shuffle never-been-coached right RFA? $4,000,000 per for a few years wouldn't be hideous. What team will pay, knowing he's good for about 18-20 mpg as a backup and needs some learnin'-up? Don't know. By the way, what's your idea, jopatmc? I trust your trade ideas far more than my crappy ones.
Really don't have one. Was going through free agent list. Saw his name. He's just turning 23 this summer, basically one year older than Motie, similar size and frame, probably a better athlete, and a little bit different player since he's got a better handle. My thought is if we went all in and had to trade Motie and Pat in some sort of megadeal, then I think he's a good bet. However his restricted status could cause problems. You offer $3.5 for 2 years, Minny will most likely match that deal and let him rot on the bench until they get some team to overpay in a trade for him. I don't think they're going to use him except in emergencies. Just a curious situation. I'd be willing to give them Martin for Randolph and a 2nd rounder in this year's draft if they've got it. That is barring using Martin in some sort of other mega deal. I posted the question because I'm a little unsure about his contract worth. He has not found a way to get it done for 4 seasons now even though he has great talent.
I highly doubt Minnesota is even extending the qualifying offer to Randolph (or Beas). Why would they want that $4M caphold for a player that never plays when Adelman wants to have an “aggressive offseason” (a.k.a. get some good players). I have a feeling the Wolves will go after Gordon or Batum and they’ll need the cap room to do it. Randolph will most likely be a UFA and go wherever he wants. I say to a team that will guarantee him a lot of playing time, like Charlotte or Sac.
Dont see Gordon being interested. Perhaps Batum would sign an offer sheet with them. However, are they gonna pay Batum $10+ mill per?? Doubt that. I think they could get Batum signed to an offer sheet without releasing AR. Beasley is a different story. If I remember, they already said they're letting him go. So his cap hold isn't going to be there and he isn't going to be there.
Theres no point in getting these guys with risky potential unless we are ready to fully unleash them. Cant just bring them in and give them a few mins here and there and expect them to fit right in from the very start.
McHale is a legend as a player. If he can fix AR, he will become a legendary coach. Probably moot-- we got Moti. But who knows? Maybe we could turn our four spot into a position of plus instead of minus.
Do I dare ask the question.... "Whats The Point?" I think the kid has great size, and athleticism, but at this point is he really honestly going to get that much better to even be a factor for the Rockets? I personally dont think so. Is he going to beat out Parsons, Bud, & Morris for minutes, or is he going to beat out Scola, Patterson, & D-Mo???... If he could do that then thats a pretty amazing turnaround for a career that has started off well.... pretty dissapointing in his first few years in the league. If he was part of a trade, I would say sure lets take on this gamble and see if he can turn a corner over the Summer. As a free agent on a team that is most likely going to be very deep going into next year with young players and two additional 1st round picks coming in... Pass. However, I think he has value to a team like the Knicks, Lakers, or Heat that need some length and athleticism on a budget. Id say 2.5 to 3.5 mil a year for 3 years.
Plenty of people with all world talent have failed to realize that potential. Most high 1st round picks don't take this long to tap that potential. I'd rather go after Speights.
Well, what's the fun in a season when there aren't any "Free Player X!!!!!!" threads after every game where player x "didn't get to a chance to prove himself?"
Except AR blocks shots and rebounds. AR is the wrong kind of tweener tho, a 3-4, while Jones has the frame to be a legit 4, heart willing. Give me Royce White over Perry Jones any day. AR as a back up is not a bad idead, but he needs a mentor like KG.
I think Perry Jones has the athleticism and length to be disruptive on the defensive end. With that being said, I was mostly referring to their offensive skil-lset as their similarities are uncanny. I wouldn't mind taking a shot at Randolph if the price is right.
