Boldin has lost a step, but he's gained muscle -- his regular season stats weren't great, but his playoff stats were MVPish. I don't understand how you get rid of him for a 6th rounder -- it's a bit of a **** you.
Boldin should have had at least one more year with the Ravens. ______ News came down over the weekend that the Ravens want Boldin to take less money to stay -- $2 million less, according to the Baltimore Sun. To me, there's just no logic for this. Boldin was enormous for the Ravens in the playoffs. He led all postseason receivers with 22 catches, 380 receiving yards and four touchdowns. (Of course, he played four games, and the Ravens were the only team with four postseason games this year.) The Ravens' Super Bowl highlight DVD came in the mail the other day (more about it lower in the column), and it's going to be an odd scene later today in Baltimore when the DVD is debuted in advance of it going on sale across the country Tuesday. Odd, and awkward. Ravens officials and players will be on hand to watch highlights of the season and mostly of the playoffs, and if they see what I saw, they'll say, What a dominant postseason Boldin had. How can we make a guy who played as well as he did take a cut? In NFL Films' poetry-in-motion footage, the exclamation point on Boldin's great postseason was added. Game 1 win over Indy: Boldin leapt in the corner of the end zone with Colts corner Darius Butler in clinging coverage, an arm pressed against Boldin's chest. Boldin caught the ball, and took Butler's arm along with it. Game 3 win over New England: two touchdown catches, including one with safety Devin McCourty all over him. "Way to go up and get it,'' quarterback Joe Flacco said to him back on the bench. "That was awesome." Game 4 win over San Francisco, in the Super Bowl: the key 3rd-and-inches, 15-yard conversion catch, fighting off Carlos Rogers to come down with a very tough catch that led to the eventual clinching field goal. A crucial play. Whom did Flacco go to with the game on the line? Boldin. link
Anquan Boldin had a good postseason but funny people acting like he has been some type of elite wr of the last couple years. He was damn near a forgotten man in Baltimore until the postseason.
Flacco was also a mediocre QB until the postseason. Perhaps Kaepernick can get him the ball more effectively than Flacco was doing. Boldin seems like a great #2 guy.
They're getting a damn good receiver. Flacco underutilized Q. That said, I'm not in as large of a panic mode as most of Baltimore is right now. Yes, a 6th round pick seems like extremely low compensation for a player of Anquan's calibur. But the entire league knew our hand -- he was going to get cut. Which means Baltimore retains some of his salary on the books and gets nothing in return. A sixth round pick and full relief of salary is a better option, period. Offensively, everyone seems to be wondering what receiver will step up to replace his production. I'm betting it's not a receiver, but a tight end. Dennis Pitta. He already has a better rapport with Flacco than Boldin ever did and he makes the same tough, physical, chain moving catches. He's certainly going to be missed and I wish him the best in SF. That battle in the NFC West is going to be incredible next year.
Not sure if Boldin and Crabtree fit well together though. Isn't Crabtree more of a possession receiver?
Forgotten man? If being forgotten is leading your team in catches and yards. Last year was actually the most yards he has had in Baltimore, though he has led the team in that category all 3 seasons. Combination of Crabtree/Boldin/Davis is very good.
From A Texan prospective this sucks. We need a receiver to complement Andre and if we cut Walters and traded for Q we would have save 2 million per Sports radio 610. Why does the Texans Front Office not see the Window on us Closing Rapidly being in a Super Bowl and they are sitting on there rearends trying to sign guys from a squad that could not beat New England?>. It is very frustrating.
Boldin was a beast in Arizona. Flacco couldn't get him the ball until the post season and the he just started throwing it up and Boldin went up and got it most of the time. You could easily say that Boldin was the reason Flacco got that insane extension.
They (610) make signing Boldin sound easy I bet. No truth to that. Sure, we need to cut Walter - to make room for other players. The 49ers have flexibility, we do not.
It's true. Boldin was falling in the declining receiver category thru the regular season. Hell, I was even able to pick him up on a few waiver wires in FF he was playing so mediocre. Flacco is the guy that finally turned that rocket arm into a heat seeker (especially in that Denver comeback victory) and found the open man waiting for the ball downfield. Boldin's good but definitely not the elite class that everyone is all of a sudden putting him into after one postseason run. Good pick up for the Niners though.
Everyone here b****ing about why he's not a Texan. I'm sure you've read the latest posts here and in the Texan threads.
