Another "What the hell is wrong with people?!" thread

To each his own. If someone makes a joke about injury to a child, you're damn right I am going to question his character. If you truly believe in your heart and mind that he's trying to handle this situation with humor, and you're not just trying to make a point, then we're going to have to agree to disagree, but trying to pass off a tasteless joke as making light of a horrible situation is baseless. It's more like someone trying to get a cheap laugh at someone else's expense.

no it doesn't. nyquil making a joke doesn't imply he somehow condones it nor was he making fun of who it happened to. that's a world away from making fun of the 3-armed person (or making light of it) or any mentally handicapped person, someone who will have some crippling disability for the rest of their life and probably have a crappy life overall. not only did this just make fun of the situation, but it also sounds like the kid will be ok.

they didn't say if "horrific burns" meant 3rd degree burns that will leave her scarred and disfigured for the rest of her life or just horrific as in "it happened to a kid so we have to call it horrific." it sounds like they were just some nasty burns that she'll get over and presumably never remember or even know happened to her when she gets older unless someone tells her. it sucks that it happened, but it's not like the kid was molested or something so i don't see the problem in joking.




as for saying comedians making fun of sensitive things don't succeed, gmafb. chris rock and carlos mencia don't seem to be in the poor house, south park and family guy aren't exactly world-renowned flops. making fun of anything and everything has, does, and will go a long way. even the stuff i don't personally like.

 

Well then let's start making jokes on 9/11. Just make sure we don't condone it or make fun of who it happened to.

Because I don't understand how what nyquil said was so terrible that you would question his character, yet you have no problem laughing at people who die, as long as they do something stupid to die.

 

I do have a problem at laughing at people dying. Don't try to make it sound like I do that. You know damn well that I don't laugh at things like that.

I still don't think you can judge someone's character based off of one off-color joke on a BBS, though.

 

To be honest, when I posted the thread, my thoughts were "What an idiot." Not, "haha he got hurt".

When I see someone making fun of someone else getting hurt, especially a child, I question a persons moral strength. Making fun of a situation like this raises a red flag for me.

the kid got hurt, but it's funny and i don't see what's wrong with laughing about it. sure, he did it to himself. but if you can't laugh at this, then i guess you're just a bit more "sophisticated" than i am. actually, watching vid could hurt you as much as make you laugh.

so it's ok to laugh at him? but it's not ok to make an offhand joke about the tumble dry baby. i don't think anyone in this thread wanted to see the baby injured. a joke here and there doesn't hurt anyone.

yea, situation is different. but the premise is the same. a hurt kid. we're all laughing at his expense.

 

How is the premise the same? Where did someone cause injury to another? Where is the helpless infant?

FYI, I was smiling with the kids having fun and grimaced when the kids leg went through the hoop.
