Another "What the hell is wrong with people?!" thread

I did something like this once.

Someone had opened the dryer to remove an item and had not shut it back. I came into the laundry closed the dryer and was going to fluff the clothes for 2 minutes before I folded them.

I hit start and rushed out of the room. A minute or so later, I noticed a thumping sound in the dryer-- like a tennis shoe or something was in there. At first I thought nothing of it then about 30 seconds later I decided to investigate.

I opened the dryer and started pulling the clothes out and what do my eyes behold: one of my cats looking overheated and groggy. We "evacuated" her to the bathtub and cooled her down with water and rubbing alcohol. Two years later she seems no worse for wear, but another minute or so might have done her in.

She found a soft, warm place for a catnap... that turned into a tumblng hell.

 

That's a hell of an act. What do you call it?

 

I'm confused. Who exactly was making fun of the child, again?

 

you're right, i know nothing about you. but, i'm willing to bet that you laugh/make fun at some things that someone else wouldn't see any humor in. everyone's sense of humor varies b/c of background/culture/ethnicity, whatever. that doesn't necessarily make it horrible just b/c you don't agree with it.

sometimes you have to make light of the situation to get you through the day, know what i mean. i could see why this would upset people though. i just think sometimes people are too sensitive.

 

Ok, sorry, they are making jokes about what happened. Whatever.

 

Sort of off topic, but...

When I was in college, we used to "ride the dryers" all the time. After a few (hundred) beers, we'd hop on down to the 24-hour Washateria, jump into one of those massive dryers and spin away. They were so big that a person could (and did) fit in them. You just turn the temp control down to cold and kick the door open when you've had enough. Fun time USA.

You see, when you go to college in Huntville Texas, you have to get creative when finding ways to get your kicks...

People on this board make fun of people who have actually lost their lives, yet we're going to get upset because someone made a joke about this? I mean, it's very terrible what happened to that little girl and I hope the guy is punished justly for it, but what nyquil said was simply a joke.

 

People get upset about making fun of people losing their lives as well. As far as this "joke", aren't jokes supposed to be funny? For crying out loud, this is about a 1 year old suffering "horrific" burns. A helpless 1 year old. If someone can find any humor in that, it speaks volumes of that persons character.

 

I only find dry humor in it.

So, you would be just as upset about people making fun of dead people, regardless of how they died?

 

Yeah, stop making jokes because what goes around, comes around.

This thread reminds me of a book I read some time ago about child abuse.

"What's blue and knocks on the window?"

"A baby in a fish tank."

 

If a person causes injury to another helpless individual, it bothers me, but more so when a child is injured. I may have posted a Darwin award candidate, but this does not compare to putting a child in a drier.

 

IMO, making fun of someone's death just because they were doing something stupid is just as bad as the joke that was told here. No one's making fun of the actual child, they're just trying to make light of a horrible situation.

It's definitely not so much worse that it would cause me to question the character of someone I've never met.
