Rockhead, not that the whole album isn't great (especially the baselines) but how unbelievable are the lyrics to fight test?
my sentiments exactly. about only 3 good rock songs worth listening too. the others are so different sounding they could've been by some other band. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
In the car I have been on a bit of a Britpop binge. Some mid '90's nostalgia... The Verve "A Northern Soul" Blur "Bustin' and Dronin'" Primal Scream "Vanishing Point" Echobelly "On" Recent cds at home: The Kinks "Face to Face" Duke Ellington "The Blanton-Webster Band" Dimitri from Paris "Sacre Bleau" Cannibal Ox "El-P Presents Cannibal Oxtrumentals" Ween "White Pepper" (with the funniest song ever, "Bananas and Blow") Stereolab "ABC Music: The Radio 1 Sessions" (R.I.P. Mary)
Heh, I love that album! I don't like it quite as much as the Soft Bulletin, but it's still spectacular. After listening to it again, I'd probably move it up to fifth best of the year. What did you think of the Soft Bulletin? If you like Flaming Lips, another band you might like is Mercury Rev (if you know about them already). They're kind of a "sister band," because the lead singer used to be a member of the Flaming Lips a while back. I'd recommend their last two albums: Deserter's Songs and Yerself Is Steam.
To me, this thread is more like "What's new in your Ipod?" Phish - Round Room Phish Live - Volume 13 God Street Wine - $1.99 Romances Dave Matthews Band - Live at Folsom Field Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (soundtrack) Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun DJ Micro - Mixed BT - Movement in Still Life Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right To Children
Oscar Peterson - Christmas songs Shadowfax - Folksongs for a nuclear village The Yellowjackets - Mile high
that's the new one right? any good? i never bought his first solo album but the verve are one of my favorite bands. right now i'm listening to the new matchbox 20 cd. i never cared for them in the past but i have to say this is one of the best albums this year.
Vengeance, you and I definitely have some similar tastes.. I'm currently listening to: Phish - Round Room Deltron 3030 U2 - 1990-2000 The Black Frames - self titled.. Seattle band with Sax Wiz Skerik.. moe. - Warts and All, Volume 2 Radiohead - OK Computer Coldplay - Rush of Blood To The Head Peter Gabriel - Passion.. I'm jacked because I just hooked up Phish for 2 nights in Vegas with moe. playing late night shows afterwards in February.. And the following week, I'm in Boston (visiting before I move there next fall) and catching the Rockets and Phish again.. Even though it will be cold as hell in Beantown, its going to be a fun ass february!
We do have similar musical tastes! I'd seriously suggest you pick up that Live at Bonnaroo CD. It's a 2-CD set featuring: Trey Anastasio Ben Harper Gov't Mule String Cheese Incident moe. North Mississippi All-Stars Soulive Robert Randolph and the Family Band Phil Lesh and Friends Widespread Panic and MANY other similar jam-type bands. Unfortunately, it tends to mix some of the less jamming songs together, but it does so in a way that provides a great, even mix of lots of musical types. What I have found is that it's turned me onto a bunch of bands I'd never heard of -- Galactic, Ween, The John Butler Trio, etc. You are a LUCKY b*stard to have Phish tickets!!! That's okay, I'm sure they'll come to Houston again. I'm not a really big Phish fan, but I think I could be if I spent more time listening to their stuff. I like Trey's solo work a lot, so the band would have to follow.
