O.K. great so at least now we know that University Blue is John Galt and not Jason Williams like I first thought. Oh yeah and that you would prefer to call Jason Williams J-Dubb not J-Will or just plain Jason Williams. Let me know when you have something constructive to add and I'll try to make a note so I don't affend you. ------------------
They wanna use Houston,Camby, and another player for trade bait. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Clutch-yeah, we'd have to sign and trade him using cap space (which we'd have), and can do. Nothing that makes it bird rights. And you can sign and trade 2 free agents (all parties must consent though) A good demonstration of this was the Grant Hill for Atkins/Wallace. Atkins and Wallace were both free agents who were going to Detroit anyway, and Atkins did not have bird rights with the Magic (was a rookie). ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Yeah but what's then the difference between the Rockets signing Chris Webber and trading him to Orlando or something? We have the cap space but I now that's not legal. I just didn't think the one-year deal with Mo gave us any special privileges, including sign-and-trades... but I'm probably wrong. NIKE -- good point.... you're right. I forgot about the Pistons-Magic deal. I was under the distinct impression teams could not do a double sign and trade unless a third team was involved. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Then Houston can go out and sign Webber, starting at around $12 million. He's told friends he likes the idea of playing with Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley, although before he signs he'd better ask if those two gunners will agree to pass the ball." What the hell does Lawrence mean by that last comment? I know Mobley likes to shoot most of the time but he is getting more assists lately and Francis is the most unselfish player in the league next to Kidd. ------------------
I think that the comment was made in jest. Francis and Mobley are our leading scorers and Webber wants to get in the mix. ------------------
If I remember correctly Clutch, you can't sign & trade other teams' free agents. If that is the literal reading, then the s&t w/ Mo would work out fine. Of course I think Mo will bolt for Detroit's $$$, but I could be wrong. I assume he'll want to hide next to an outstanding rebounder for the length of his career... hmmm, if only Walt were center. ------------------
I think it's interesting that Lawrence thinks Dallas could swing something. Outside of the core of Finley, Nash, and Nowitzki, Dallas has only three players on the roster with large enough contracts to cover at least part of Webber's salary: Shawn Bradley (Free Agent, worth $8 mil), Howard Eisley, ($5 mil) and Juwan Howard ($19 mil). Sacramento already has starters at Center and PG. I don't think they'd take on Shawn Bradley at his price as backup. Juwan Howard could fill the void Webber's leaving, but would the Kings be as willing to take on Howard's salary as Cuban? And that begs the question of whether or not Sacramento would want him as a player. There's also the matter of making the salaries work. Maybe dumping Nick Anderson with Webber would do it for Sacramento. I don't know about Dallas. They're not going to have caproom. I really wonder how much Sacramento would want what Dallas has to offer. I feel the Knicks has more to offer the Kings than the Mavericks, no matter what Lawrence says. As far as I'm concerned, the main team we should be worrying about is Sacramento. I question why so many people in the media are so confident that Webber will leave Sacramento. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Relativist (edited February 25, 2001).]
Clutch-newly signed free agents (except in the case of sign and trades, which have other provisions) can't be traded until I believe December 15, like the Brad Miller thing, even though he ended up not being traded. Another thing to point out: If we did a sign and trade for something like Cato and KT or whatever, that doesn't fill up Webber's 12.6 mill max salary, Sacramento doesn't get a trade exception. (So in that case, taking on a guy who's contract expires the next year like, ahem, Walt Williams, doesn't hurt them as far as cap goes.) This is my understanding based on the TMac sign and trade, it was 9 mill for nothing, but Toronto only had the 4-5 mill they were under the cap by losing TMac. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching.
