I just think it's funny that the most recognizable Texas-ex is a person who scored below the level of literacy on an intelligence test.

Now that's just not a mark of a great undergraduate education.

This is a valid point. I haven't heard anything about Georgia all offseason in the local papers, websites, etc. Are they supposed to be any good this year? What about USC? I heard about some Bush scandal, but I don't know if they were talking about the president, gardening, or that clip from "Revenge of The Nerds" because I don't hear much about 'SC down here either. Do they still have a football team?

Or maybe you just can't read....It's okay, bigtexxx. Unlike you, I'm open to teaching and helping ALL. I can't just help those kids in my classroom who "appreciate" it, as you put it. I tend to try to help everyone.

Oh, and bigtexxx, that paragraph that came two paragraphs before this paragraph is sarcasm.

Oh, and bigtexxx, sarcasm is when I'm saying something, but meaning the opposite.

Oh, and bigtexxx, a paragraph is a collection of sentences that are often related to the same topic.

    YOU'RE WELCOME

I am pretty sure that bigtexxx did not go to UT, but just for you, I will ask him.

Will someone please call bigtexxx and tell him to post him phone number so I can find out if he attended UT or not? Trade_Jorge wants to know.

    YOU'RE WELCOME TOO

Ok, I see your posts in the D&D and most times just laugh them off or even (gasp) AGREE with a few of them, but this one I have to respond to.

Walter Cronkite, Michael Dell, Janis Joplin, Lady Bird Johnson, Tom C. Clark, Lloyd Bentsen, Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Now I will not deny that the media has made Vince a larger-than-life figure, but to denounce an entire University because an ATHLETE, someone who was recruited for their athletic prowess rather than their intelligence, is absurd.

T_J, I know you love to ruffle feathers, and most of the time I could care less. This time, however, I have to call you out.

My statement stands. He did not receive a great undergraduate education if he can not score above the level of literacy on an intelligence test. It is the height of irony that an institution devoted to educating students is represented by such a figure.

I think the argument isn't that other schools are doing it, but rather most competetive schools have players that are very talented, and have a sense of entitlement. Thus it's more of an event that comes with the territory.

I love UT but the "as long as we are winning its cool" attitude is terrible. This is just sad. Mack needs to start cracking down as drunk driving is just dangerous. The program is lucky that this time there was not an injury in the accident. If there were serious injuries, UT would be feeling a lot more heat. I can't believe that people are cool with this.

Not that unusual. I went to school when Sheryl Swoopes was at Tech, and that girl could barely read, much less study.

To the UT alum who think VY received an education? You are kidding yourselves.

Hey, man. Thanks for the post....I hope you don't think that a lot of people are cool with it as long as UT is winning. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are people out there who think that, and that's sickening. But, I think many of us agree that Houston should be punished, but to what extent? For a guy with great grades and a great reputation as a volunteer in the community, should this one blemish force him off the team? Does he not get a second chance? Of course, if there was someone injured or killed, it would be a different story. But we STILL don't know that the accident was or is his fault. Being drunk not does not mean you caused the accident, though I agree it certainly can't help. There's still a lot to be determined, that's for sure.

I won't even go into the "punishing him for a long time is punishing the team" argument that some coaches use to keep from keeping a guy out for too long. (Like when Alabama suspended a WR for a game last year, only to bring him back at halftime of the LA-Monroe game they went on to lose. That's freaking sad. Guess it wasn't in the local paper here, either....) I think making a poor choice is the first step in punishing the team, which is why Lamarr Houston had to apologize to the team yesterday, and is already certain to miss the UTEP game.

    http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/index.html

Anyway, hopefully this is the only incident for the team. Things have been cleaned up big time since last off-season. The players have to realize that they are under the microscope, and the choices, or even mistakes they make will be on tv, the internet, and perhaps EVEN the local newspapers. They represent more than just themselves, whether they like it or not.
