Ok, I'll admit it, I don't have a clue as to what Phoenix is doing.

Marbury makes $11.2M next year and Kidd makes $9.2M next year. So, they actually picked up $2M in salary in the Kidd deal.

Robinson will make $8.4M next year (contract through '03), Buechler makes $3.6M (contract through '03) and Wallace makes $2.4M (contract through '02). So, Phoenix go rid of $2.4M in salary in the Robinson deal.

So, the net result of the two deals is that the Suns will have $400K in extra cap space in '02. Now add in the fact that even after these deals, they still have the 5th highest amount of money committed in '02. They're not going to be players in the FA market, so why do these deals?

Also, why would Detroit take on an additional $2.4M in salary? Have they given up on Webber?

Cliff Robinson is a good scorer and defender but is a weak rebounder. If he was a strong rebounder and 5 years younger he would be an ideal fit for the Rockets as a PF.

Clifford Robinson is the perfect PF for a guard-oriented team in the Western Conference IMO. He plays great D and is pretty good at drawing fouls to get the opposing PF in foul trouble. With all the star PF's in the West, these skills are a great asset. On offense, he's got a great outside shot to draw a big man out and clear the lane. I would actually prefer him over Mo Taylor if he wasn't so old. Both are terrible rebounders, but EG is our savior there anyway. I actually really liked the quote by one of the Rockets staff when he said Terrance Morris could play a Clifford Robinson type role with the Rockets. I would be ecstatic if that came true!

Nah, they're just getting into position to tank it next year, so they can have a shot at Yao Ming. Since Chicago got Curry & Chandler, they shouldn't be looking to draft Yao.

It is amazing how many players are being traded & a lot of them are big name players. What's with that?

aelliot, Pistons actually only take on 1.6 million in salary for next season. Your numbers were a little off. And the reason they did it is because they'll have like 14 million in cap room AFTER the trade. They barely scratched the surface of their cap room and added a 16 ppg and defensive stopper type guy. And they opened a roster spot.

They paid Buechler as a promise to keep him there because Grant Hill told them to and John Wallace was given the starting SF job and blew it with a horrible attitude and work ethic.
