Are you now unable to comprehend video material as well as the written word? In that video Obama said, in referenceto the military, that he would... -Cut wasteful spending (in general, not just the military) -Cut SDI spending (a good idea since we are highly unlikely to see a missile based attack, given that only Russia and China could conceivably hit us) -Refuse to weaponize space -Slow development of future combat systems -Make sure the quadrennial review is not used to justify wasteful spending At no point did he say he would "scale back" our military or defense in general. He outlined some specific areas where he would cut wasteful spending, but has not said anything about "scal[ing] back" our military, which was your (completely unsubstantiated) claim. IOW, you could not refute even a single argument, so you decided to disparage the poster as a poor writer who is immature. Don't worry, I won't report you, I am not that kind of a$$.
No, as I said, the FISA courts allow for tapping inside our country while the NSA is free to tap anything they want outside the country. Learn to read and you might get some of these points the first time.
some people consider most of the defense budget to be wasteful and you did list specific areas of military spending so I don't think that it is a stretch to say scaled back.
He has not said that he would reduce the budget to the military at all. He did mention a few programs that many reasonable people would see as wasteful (SDI) to be targeted for cuts, but given that he supports expanding spending for veteren's benefits, it is likely that the money from these cut programs would go to other areas still within the area of "military spending." Not scaled back, redistributed.
Given that he only plans to overturn ones he believes violate the US Constitution, I take it you no longer believe in the Constitution?
GD..I still don't get how everyone is so Obamafied...Seriously...Everyone is drinking the koolaid and can't stop...
Between Obama and McCain, I would vote for Obama every time. Not kool-aid, an appreciation for his policy positions, charisma, and history. Clinton and McCain would be a more difficult choice.
maybe it's the drugs and such,...but slowing development of future combat systems seems a lot like scaling back the military... For example, If you were to actually "scale back the military",...How would you do it beyond the way Obama proposes?...If I'm going to scale something back, I'm going to cut spending and slow prospective activities involved with the situation... It's the pure definition of scaling back the military...What Trader_Jorge says is pretty accurate and very true.
Nice disparaging remark... On topic, I posted a very logical reassignment of funds straight from Obama's website. When the troops come home, the VA is going to need far more money than at any time in history given the numbers of trrops saved, but maimed or disabled, as a result of the improvements in body armor in this war. The proposed increases certainly look like the offset of SDI (8.8 billion) and "Future Combat System" (3.7 billion), the two major cuts Obama talked about in that speech. And one of those isn't even a cut, it is "slowing down" the development of FDS. A reassignment of funds is not "scaling back the military." If you want to talk about "the drugs," accept the challenge I laid down in the Sam V. t_j thread. I will be happy to debate you on the topic of drug policy.
I get what you are saying...Take away some of the money used on military strategy and tactics towards needed military administration (VA monetary allocations)...At the end of the day, you can proudly proclaim a reassignment of funds within the military...However... I just don't buy that it doesn't "scale back" the military in terms of capability... Drop the foreplay...Simply state you are in favor of scaling back the capability of the military to gain increased benefits for veterans. ...That is the position, whether proclaimed or not from Obama.
