No kidding. I haven't listened to FM radio for over a year. XM radio is by far a wise investment if you dig good music.
Excellent post. You know, I don't even care if a band is manufactured or "fake," as long as their songs have actual melodies and are pleasing to the hairs, everything's cool. Sadly, much of the music on the Buzz sounds like a bunch of toddlers ****ing around on guitars... and don't get me started on the vocalists or lyrics. Just my humble opinion. Keep in mind that I have no music training whatsoever, so most of this stuff is probably brilliant and is just going over my head.
Anyone remember that Sopranos episode when the record producer was trying to get with Adriana through promoting her band. Remember that song they were singing when Adriana, Chris, and the producer were at the club? Mr. Meowgi's post reminded me of it.
The mid day guy on the buzz. What happen to him? DId they fire him. Or is it the same guy, but dropped his gimmick
I know what you mean. I love female vocalists and there just aren't any getting airplay these days. I'd reccomend you check out a group called Kidney Thieves. Kind of like Evanesence but much better in my opinion.
Radio stations like these have no range..... they only play the top forty crap that is considered enough alternative enough to be on the buzz. The reason is that most people only listen for an hour at most and in that time they want to hear the most popular songs, the problem with that thinking is at my new workplace the radio is on the buzz all day and in the month since I've been listening to 8 hours of the buzz a day I garuntee I've not heard 100 different songs in that time, it's the same crap over and over again and sometimes three and four times a day. I hate new country but there is one good classic country station that I like, it's 97.1 in Houston and they play the real country classics.
I like the Buzz. I can live without the morning show but it's the first place I dial to during our breaks. And it's GREAT from 2-4!!!!
The only station that I actually look forward to listening to is KTRU. I'll turn on the CC stations if KTRU is doing the news, but I almost never hear a song that really excites me. Haven't for a long time. It's a shame that so-called marketing experts have taken over what was once the province of DJs. Bands are picked not because a music lover likes them but because they are most marketable (which really translates to "blandest" and "least challenging"). As thadeus has told me before, Buzz stations are for people who don't really like music - they just need something playing in the background.
I miss Z-Rock thankfully...being a child of the 70s..I can still listen to 93.7 and enjoy 90% of what they play...classic rock will never go out of style with me.
Hey I'm a child of the 80's and I don't change the station from the 93.7 (also classic rock) up here in DC. They have the goofy anouncer you just love on all the time, and well basically its cheese in a can and I can't stop listening.
The Buzz, when compared to the other stations in Houston, is very original. I know thats not saying much, but its really not a bad station, if you want to b**** about a radio station, bring up 104 KRBE, Rock 101, or Mix 96.5, all of which suck.
Nope, It's horrible, unoriginal music for twelve year olds. Every time I hear on of their stupid, moronic, chattering djs, I want to track down the mf and beat him with a bat.
You're not alone. Anthing is better than the stuff 101 plays. If I want to hear Stairway to Heaven again, I have the CD. Same goes for Eruption, I can't Drive 55, and Legs. The only thing I miss on the Buzz is Rush and, coincidence of coincidences, I have all of their CDs too.
