Since it was brought up in an earlier post, there will also be billboards for Steve and Cuttino. We sent all three to ESPN.com, but they only had room for one in the article. And yes, since I've seen it asked here many times, us Rockets staffers do read Clutchcity.net. I don't catch every post (you're all too prolific), but I make it a point to check in as often as I can. Tim McDougall Vice President of Marketing Houston Rockets and Comets timm@rocketball.com <Lurk mode back ON>
oh, oh, oh.... can we get a .gif image of the steve and cuttino billboards (like the ming billboard)?????? btw, welcome to the posting side of the BBS Tim!!
I'm glad someone finally found this! Clutch did such a great job and a big thanks to Darren Rovell (a REALLY great guy) who featured cc.net prominently in the article. Tim, you finally made it, eh? Yeah, I think we would all love to see the billboard images of all the players. Any chance of getting those sent or posted or something???
Awesome. Both the article and Tim's post. I think it's kind of a historical moment because it's the first time someone from the Rockets "officially" posted something on this board (I have a feeling that people from the organization might have posted several times under other user names before...). I would guess that this should also make it clear to the last person how full of !"%!"% this idiot Troy Baros was about the Rockets wanting to shut down the site (not that anyone would have given any credibility to that anyway). Tim, now that you have posted on the board, even with your e-mail address, be prepared to receive questions from all over the world (China, Canada, Australia, Germany are just a few of the nations represented here.)
Tim: That billboard of Yao Ming is not good. I mean you should choose a better picture of Yao Ming. He looks like older and more stagnant in that picture. I have seen tons of Yao ming's photos. Many of them are definitely better than that one. You should portray Yao Ming in this way: a young, vivid and lovely big boy, instead of a horrible giant. Then NBA, Rockets and Ming can attact much more female fans in the future.
Technically, that's not entirely true. Andy Ware, the Rockets web guy has posted here in an official capacity once before. But, Tim is #2.
A lovely big boy..............hehe - I love all these new chinese posters. No disrespect intended, W&S.
I'll always be #2 to Andy. He makes Rockets.com one of the best official team sites out there. We'll post the other billboards soon. Unfortunately, most of my staff has already left for the Comets game, and I lack the technical expertise to reduce the graphics file down to postable size. (File as exhibit A under "Why it's important to have a great staff.") Jeff and I have actually had numerous conversations about the board. I let him know when I finally registered, and have been threatening to post for a while, and finally got around to it -- primarily, I just want people to know we're accessible. Especially to the die hard fans. In particular, I also wanted the team's fans to know that Yao will be a big part of our marketing, but so will our current stars like Steve, Cuttino, and others. As for uniforms ... we're working on it. It's a long process. All the feedback we got at the end of last season was great, though. Windandsea, sorry to hear you don't like the shot we used of Yao Ming. We do like it, and have gotten a great initial response. You should know that it's only one of many elements that we'll use to market the team and Yao. It's in our best interest (and Yao's) for Houston to develop a relationship with him -- if we do our job, we should be bringing out different elements of his persona over the course of our efforts. We started with his size, because it helps launch one of the main messages of our marketing campaign, and we wanted to do that as dramatically as possible. I thank you for your feedback. Oh, and I am prepared to be bombarded by messages. I've actually given my e-mail out over the air on 610 before, and some fans have found it on their own. The folks on the Houston Roundball Review send me their Comets thoughts all the time. I welcome it. You have to if you're in marketing. Anyway, I'm late for the Comets game, so I'm going to run. Thanks for welcoming me into your forum. Tim McDougall Vice President of Marketing Houston Rockets and Comets timm@rocketball.com
So now we have 2000 new registrants, this is good. Congrats!! But what i am interested is: what should we do to attract another 2000 or 3000 or more posters?
Welcome you, Mr. Tim McDougall, this is really awesome!! I am a Houston fan (a Yao Ming fan first) in Ohio, and I cannot see Houston game in person. But when Houston comes to play at Cleveland (on Feb 5, 2003, I cannot wait !) , I will definitly go there to see all our heroes!! Go, Houston!
Windandsea, I have to disagree with you...I think that is a good shot of Yao and is appropriate for the billboards. It sort of looks like he is looking ahead to his future as a Rocket and Houstonian. os
First off..... Congrats to Clutch...great to see you finally gettin your due props in the national media. Tim, thanks for your posts...please feel free to join in our reindeer games as often as you can. We love insiders here!! W&S, don't worry too much about the pic, I'm sure it's just the beginning. The female fans will get chances aplenty to see Yao Ming in many pictures.
