Nice looking phone, but multi-touch is the phone industry's 240 hz motion picture. People will pass this phone up for not having multi touch

These aren't the Droids you're looking for.

It's useful for gaming and certain apps.

    Definitely doesn't hurt.

i think i may have asked this a few pages back, but is multi touch something that could be added in a software update? i agree with what you say, it wouldnt hurt to have it, doesnt look very necessary to me, but if its something google could add in an update later on down the road, this might be the first touch screen phone i get.

I believe it depends on the screen. Resistive touch screens are single touch but have higher accuracy (stylus), while capacitive screens allow multi-touch but lower accuracy. With screens getting large enough for finger swipes, capacitive screens are more popular. The downside would be if you liked scribbling precise notes on your pda.

Not sure what the Nexus One uses, but other android phones have handled multitouch.

I've heard that Windows Mobile can't do multi-touch even if the screen allowed it. Another reason why it should crawl in the corner and die quickly.

That's my point. This new motion technology in hdtv's is not needed, but some people just want the latest and greatest. Same thing with multitouch. Let's face it, it's cool to pinch. People bought into it, and it's a factor to a lot of people.

Even for the people that would like to have multitouch (I might be one of them btw), I'm sure it can be added on. I mean thats how it was with the G1. Even the European version of the Droid has it apparently so I'm sure there would be a way to add it on. Every indication is that the hardware is capable of it.

And multitouch is not an absolute necessity but for people debating between this and the Iphone, it's another con against android devices.

Pricing rumored to be $530 without contract and $180 with T-Mobile plan ($80 Per Month) Sold only online by Google
Multitouch is supported in the Android API which means third party apps (games and dolphin browser) have multitouch, just not in the apps it comes with.
It has been rooted allowing custom roms and probably multitouch in all apps.
Google should announce it for sale on Tuesday (Jan 5) when there holding a press conference.
    It's a sexy piece of phone =)

I thought this phone has multi-touch? Hell, the G1 has multitouch, it just wasn't "activated". If you get root, you can use it in certain apps.
