Do they WHAT this type of thing? ;)

I don't know. Ask DAVID_ROCKET, I don't live in MEXICO. I act MEXICAN, speak Spanish, but I live in Katy.

I know Webster does that... that was my FIRST one. San Marcos did it for me, too, back in 1996. Good times.

same BS happened to my g/f this week. lawyer claims the courthouse switched to a new system on the day she was suppose to be in court so it was not his fault he missed the court date. according to the courthouse they did switch to a new system but it was at the beginning of the year. she never could get a straight answer from the lawyer so she went ahead and paid for the ticket since there was a warrant out for her arrest. we'll see if we can recoupe any lawyer fees.

IDK how it works in Houston, but down here, I pleaded not guilty for a speeding ticket, where they set another date for the hearing. When that day came, the Asst DA took me into his office to discuss why I was pleading NG. The officer that ticketed me was not aware of the speed limit in the part of town where he stopped me. He actually left that "location of ticket" part of the ticket blank. When the DA pulled out the original ticket, the cop had filled in a residential area, where on my copy of ticket was blank.

    Case Dismissed!

FYI, deferred adjudication works different in every county.

For me, none of them cared if I had done defensive driving at any point in the past. So first I did the "do 1 defensive driving per year to get rid of a ticket" thing. Then..

In 1 county, I did deferred adj. and had to pay an extra fine (much higher than the rest), do defensive driving, and abstain from getting a moving violation for 2 weeks IN THEIR COUNTy. Easy enough, but expensive.

In another county, I did deferred adj. and had to do the same but abstain from getting a moving violation for 6 months in their county--a different county.

In another county, same story, but their version was a much lower fine, except SIX months of no moving violations anywhere in the ENTIRE STATE.

Short story.. talk to the court and find out what their version of def. adj. involves. (fyi, that was 4 years ago, and I've only gotten 1 ticket since then...and that was about 2 years ago..so I've stopped all that crap) ;)

I suggested an attorney earlier. I have a speeding ticket where I was going 76 in a 45 and I heard that he doesn't lose. I think he reschedules it to the point where the cop won't show.

If you are will spend a few 100 to not have the mark on your driving record, this is what I would do.

BTW... My court date is this Halloween. :D

The last ticket I had was for speeding on I-10. One of George Froman's son's was in court that day. He was 2 hours late and had a FTA. The judge called him up, asked about his ole dad, and dismissed him straight away. seemed like a nice guy though. He was chatting with some of the other traffic criminals. Anyway, I went in hoping for a no-show by the cop, and semi-prepared to represent myself for a jury. He showed. I thought I did alright, but they convicted me. He had notes from the day it happened and made this big diagram on the chalkboard. I'd probably use the guy swilkens recommended if I had it over again. This is a good read from the Houston Press about his practice. It's from 1996, but get a kick out of some of his techniques...

LOL! Well, since I want to be fair to them and give them a chance to work it out on their end first (as they've promised to do without me incurring any extra charges), I will give them a chance to do it right first and then will let you know. I think they're honest people and just made an honest mistake, but I will take a 'wait and see' approach here.

BTW, the worst court in town #9 (the Lubbock court) and the Bellaire one, the best one is the Stafford court and Precinct 7 courthouse...those are the 'easy going' ones.

Damn dude! Sounds frighteningly similar to what they told me. They also told me that the court switched to a new system. The law firm has informed me that they're "currently working on it to get it back on track". They asked me to come in and sign some "bond" document or whatever it's called (not sure what that is, anyone know?), and they would take care of the rest.

BTW, does simply paying the ticket and the extra $200 FTA charge enough to lift the arrest warrant? I was under the impression that it would take more than that.

As soon as you pay your warrant is no more. I let the due date to pay the ticket I told about earlier slip this and had a warrant out briefly. I was worried about extra charges too, but I just had to pay the ticket and I was rid of the warrant also.
