So you all hate the French people? Why? Because they do not speak English and they take pride in themselves? The French have done no wrongs to America. NONE.
Neocons also refuse to believe another truth about the French...that fact that, in regards to the war in Afghanistan, the French Air Force has flown the 2nd highest number of sorties to the US Air Force. But they didn't join us in our Iraq debacle. DAMN FRENCH!! PASS THE FREEDOM FRIES!!!!!
France is a democracy. The people of France did not want to venture into Iraq, so why should Chirac follow American foreign policy when his people do not want to take the same route.
Taking pride in oneself and being full of yourself are two different things. No arguement that the Iraq war is wrong, but don't make the French government out to be the next Nostradamus.
Saint Louis, you just contradicted yourself. I know everybody always loves to hate the French, but I'd like to know why. It seems to me that it is largely baseless reasons. People are so conditioned to hate the French that they no longer even bother to think why anymore. So I'm curious, why do you hate them?
picking on the French isn't an American exclusive. the whole world does it. having said that...i certainly don't HATE the french. that's a pretty strong word.
An unidentified member of the Paris Olympic organizing committee cries after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics today.
I do not hate the french, but I enjoy laughing at them who's the fruitcake who designed the french logo? thats why the lost..their logo sucks monkey balls and belongs on seseame street
2016 is the North American, South American turn at the olympics our last one was in 96 since then: 2 from the Pacific Rim - Sydney (2000) Bejing (2008) 2 from Europe - Athens (2004) London (2012) I think France will have to waaaait
we hate them because they are, for lack of a better word, French. seriously, i don't think this is real hatred (at least not by most of the bashers), just good-natured ribbing...
Hate is a pretty strong word. I don't hate the French, but it sure is fun to kick'em when they are down. I suppose it is fun to go after the French because of the French smugness that has been fostered by the government since the days of DeGaulle. Do I really care what the French think, no. Let the other countries of the EU worry about the French. I poke fun at the French the same way I poke fun at Aggies. Both Aggies and the French take life too seriously.
Yes, but North America just had the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. Also, Vancouver will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. I could see maybe Sao Paulo or Kuala Lumpur getting the 2016 campaign. I highly doubt France will even make a bid.
I agree it is all subjective. I actually don't mind the pyramid, and think it is kind of cool in of itself. But in the context of placing it on the grounds of the Louvre it becomes ugly(IMO). The U.S. doesn't have as landmarks that old, but it would be like of someone made a new entrance on the grounds Jefferson's home or the captial building that was in the shape of a flying saucer. It just doesn't fit. London's ferris wheel is ugly and mars the skyline, but it isn't set smack dab in the middle of the tower of London. I like apprectiating period architecture, and having a beautiful example of period achitecture interrupted by something several centuries out of that architecture was annoying to me. I am sure many disagree and like a big glass pyramid in the middle of the grounds, and that is fine. Disagreement isn't in itself a bad thing. As for the people, the French people I've met on my visits have been extremely nice, and gone out of their way to make me feel welcome, with the exception of one waitress, one waiter, and one cab driver. The British people have also been very nice, and helpful, but in general not as open and friendly as the French. Everyone has different experiences so I am not trying to claim that all French are a certain nor should anyone else. There was a period of time under DeGaulle when anti-Americanism was encouraged and the stereo-type from that period still lingers in the minds of many Americans.
Well for one thing, they've been dumping all those damn Chevrolet's on our car market for decades now. Give me good strong American cars like Jeep and Ford any day.
