ALL dogs should be on a leash outside at ALL times - the only exception being an off-leash dog park. Anyone who lets any dog that could even potentially be dangerous off leash in a neighborhood should have the dog taken away from him and be thrown in jail.
Could not agree more. A couple of weeks back I am walking my puppy and out of no where this other small dog (probably 15 lbs max) comes running and jumps on my puppy (10 lbs when full). Starts attacking and me puppy lets out a squeal. Picked him up in less then two seconds and nothing was wrong. Then comes the idiot owner in a car looking for his dog. I swear to god I was literally an inch away from clocking him. My puppy is a lover, not a fighter as you can see (hope this doesn't derail the thread) <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oi1PKqVJ2W8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oi1PKqVJ2W8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
The dog obviously got out on accident, the owner immediately went looking for him, why are you so mad?
Here is Bobo by the way, since we're posting videos of dogs...He's no punk small dog, but, it was kind of a david vs goliath situation... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SbimGMI6OeA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SbimGMI6OeA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Heat of the moment. I was obviously upset cause my puppy was attacked and was not thinking right. Agree with you if say it would have been stupid on my part if I actually punched him.
Your dog is pretty huge itself, I guess it's not in it's DNA to fight back. Rottweilers creep me out cuz in my old neighborhood in the ghetto. I used to live on Ridgemont and Briargate, were Z-Ro grew up, and these damn dogs would run wild on the streets. I **** myself and ran on top of a car while jogging when one of those mofos saw me. I say get a Pitbull and let it loose on that b****!
My dog did fight back, more of a defensive effort than anything. He's gotten into a scuffle at a dog park with a pitbull before (small, probably not full grown yet) and was able to fend it off until I got between them. This one happened so quick, wasnt a lot of time before she grabbed him. He kind of crouches so the other dog cant grab the under side of his neck.
protective... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mSbFQq_dXm8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mSbFQq_dXm8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> bold... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dkIhEGBTMo4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dkIhEGBTMo4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
indeed... it's possibly all about temperment to perceived/actual threats... for example, there aren't many dogs out there that would best a protective german shepard... a breed I so favor... i've also seen small dogs scare the devil out of an otherwise insistant larger dog... how has your dog behaved to other would-be threatening situations...? have there been any, besides this unfortunate encounter...? is he overly friendly... even towards strangers, or dogs encroaching his personal/owner's space that hasn't been so welcomed by his owner...?
Maybe you're just trying to be funny, but it's exactly this kind of attitude that leads to aggressive dogs. Too many losers get dogs as a "toughness" accessory, and then fail to train it properly. Rather than recognizing over-aggressiveness as dysfunctional, they get a thrill from watching their dog bully other dogs (and people). Of course, once the dog snaps at them, it's taken to the pound where it's deemed unfixable and put to sleep. Or it's tied to a stake or stuck in a crate most of the time and ignored. I guess this is a long way of saying that your joke sucks....
then there's the other extreme... of having an overly friendly dog... that would sooner lick a burglar's hand than bark at their presence... or cower at a strange dog's charge at it's owner... than have the temperment to uphold it's own standing in the would-be "pack" and his territory... when required...
No, Bobo is definitely defensive. He definitely fought back. Just because he fought back doesnt mean he wouldnt get bit or lose.
LOL...not everybody gets a dog to prevent burglaries and stand up to other dogs. Maybe some owners actually think of their dogs as part of their family and would do anything to prevent it from harm? I would personally do anything to prevent my dog from getting into a situation where he has to fight from fear that something could possible go wrong.
