Can guns be traced from factory to recent owner like Cars. . . . have a Serial/ VIN type of thing? We need a system that does that. . . . . .. I buy a car from a private owner. . . i still have to register it Rocket River
Yes, but number of excess deaths in the US due to suicide by firearm is likely in the thousands every year. Innocent children being murdered is a tragedy, but these cases are still extremely rare and so are easily dismissed by gun rights advocates.
Here is just one example, but go ahead and bury your head in the sand. Meanwhile the yalliban allows everyone to carry concealed weapons. Several studies find that mass shooting deaths fell slightly in the decade of the federal assault weapon ban, and then rose dramatically in the decade that followed. https://www.politifact.com/factchec...den-said-mass-shootings-tripled-when-assault/
Firearms overtook auto accidents as the leading cause of death in children. 65% were homicides. https://www.npr.org/2022/04/22/1094364930/firearms-leading-cause-of-death-in-children
Thanks very much for this. It cleared up some things for me. Here is the relevant passage from the article. Other relevant stats: - Last year, there were a record 45,222 firearm-related deaths in the U.S. Of them, 10% or 4,357 deaths were children. - Overall firearm-related deaths increased 13.5% between 2019 and 2020, but those for 1 to 19 year olds jumped nearly 30%. The article also describes why motor vehicle deaths among children declined while the opposite happened for gun deaths. But I think people can guess the reasons.
there’s been so many mass shootings, I didn’t even remember which one Sutherland Springs was and had to Google
I'd like to see these stats where 'good guys with guns' save lives every day unless they are including the day to day activity of police officers across the USA.
Spoiler alert: Guns aren't allowed at the NRA convention. Does that mean there are no "Good Guys" there?
I honestly think that we could have at least one (School shooting) every week but some do legit get thwarted before they happen. I mean this week alone there was IIRC another attempted shooting where the feds caught the maniac before he could do anything.
How can children in this country feel safe at school anywhere? They get murdered for being children. And the answer is to get more guns into schools? More guns and less gun restrictions while we CUT spending on mental health. The gun crowd talks so much about freedom, but if you need guns because you fear violence, you are not free.
