I don't think you can put the tooth paste back in the tube in the United States. There are already 400+ million guns floating around. Even if we stopped all sales tomorrow, someone with even a moderate level of motivation will be able to acquire one. I'd actually be down for some sort of way to make American society gun free but I don't think it's politically tenable and I don't think minor tweaks to the gun laws I usually see thrown around will actually solve or help anything.
Yep. If you wanted to ban semi-automatic rifles you should have done it right after prohibition with the menace of gang violence as the core reason. Americans might have swallowed that pill but the genie is out of the bottle now Too many shooters who love their ARs and too many dollars to be made by manufaturers.
Probably not. We should consider a market base model - regulate, licensing, training, insurance. Anyhow, I was curious why prohibition didn't work but gun banning did in many modern societies...
Scalise specifically wasn't targeted but the shooter of that game was going after GOP Politicians. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_baseball_shooting
I agree a ban is impractical and likely not to work. If a new assault weapons ban is like the previous one won't do much as that was based more on look of the weapons than function. I like the idea of other forms of regulation such as registration insurance requirements. At the minimum we need to get an up to date system to monitor sales, ownership and weapons themselves to track them better.
Damn! Just got an official emergency alert for the Northern Suburbs of Minneapolis for a shooter on the loose. The alert is warning people to shelter in place.
A followup they are saying the police are searching for someone armed. Not clear if there has been a shooting.
Crazy, pissed off people cannot do mass shootings without guns or the enabling of the gun industry and gun nuts period.
Making guns illegal will stop mass shootings. After all, making drugs illegal stopped addiction, overdoses, and all drug related violence right? Because making things illegal means we can’t get them anymore right?
To be fair, even witnesses described him as white. Also, most mass shooters are white. https://www.statista.com/statistics/476456/mass-shootings-in-the-us-by-shooter-s-race/
You still can’t just come out and assume a criminals skin color based on trends or stereotypes though, right? Isn’t that racism 101?
