That's not as bad as cutting a blaster fart while doing a squat...in a co ed weight room. I've been there...
slightly related, just did my first bike ride to work this morning.......17kms in about 45mins have an exercise bike i use alot and run ann ball all the time, but thought I'd take it to the extra level plus bought a new bike for Xmas now i can get home and have my exercise done a few times a week
I have a question for you guys... I've never lifted seriously in my life, just here and there, and it was always with someone who knew about this stuff.. But if I DON'T want to gain weight, should I lift? Basically, I want to look good naked. I'm still not in tip top shape, but am trying to get there, have already lost lots of weight. The problem is that I don't want to lift weights, build muscle, still have fat on top of it, so then it will ALL look like fat, you know what I'm saying? I don't want to be BIG either. I want to do lots of reps to get the cuts and the shape. So if I lift weights (high reps) will that make me look fatter since I still have some fat on my body? Or will it burn the fat I have relatively fast (how fast)?
okay, i haven't done a bench press since 7th grade (for some reason our gym class went in the weight room one day and we all got to try some different equipment and then we never went back again) so i have no idea what i bench. but i have tried bench pressing weights with just one arm. so would your bench just be the total of what you can lift with each arm or would it be greater. i think someone has said greater, and it makes sense b/c you have more balance with two arms, but since this board seems to know everything i'll ask here. also, anyone know how much of your body weight your lifting on a pushup?
I was going to start a fresh thread for this question....maybe I still should...but I dont like starting threads....but anyway... I am just getting back into weight training and cardio at the new gym they just opened over here...and I cant spring for their "trainers" to help me put together a workout program. Any of yall feel up to posting what your program is...you know...what muscle groups do you do on what day...how many reps...and whatnot..? Right now, I do cardio every day...and alternating muscle groups on different days.. Like do upper body on one day....lower body on the next...middle every day( my waist needs some severe help) Tips and tricks of the trade appreciated herre.. help me out guys...you know I never ask yall for help...
I'm at 6'3" about 190, and I kinda need to gain weight muscle wise and a whole lot of strength for football next year. Also, a little speed wouldn't hurt, either. My arms are pretty weak(my bench is maybe around 215, if I'm lucky ), but my legs are pretty strong(My squat max is probably about 360 or so). I hope to be able to bench at least 300 by time I graduate in 2005. Anyways, I've been doing my workout provided by the coaches every week, and I feel I'm gaining decent strength, but I kinda need to step up my workout. I've also been running a mile or two after every workout. What kind of foods, would you guys reccomend, besides peanut butter and all that?
Sane, KC aka furry is right about doing high reps with low weight as that builds endurance (and maybe tone). I'll put it to you this way: I work out 4 times a week for an hour at a time and I'm cut. I have also gained about 13 pounds since working out in 2 years time but it is muscle. Working out on a routine basis actually will speed up your metabolism. f4p, Don't know for sure the answer to your question, but it seemed that I read that you are using pretty much your whole body weight when you do push-ups as it is providing the resistance. Great exercise to build your back muscles, by the way. Eddie, I have a terrible diet so I shouldn't be the one to answer your question, but in talking to other people, try to eat stuff with lots of protein, maybe even take some protein shakes (but I don't do that). R2K, I can tell you what I do each week but it is a little detailed. Email me through the board if you want to know about it.
^^^^Hahaha. I have never been strong at the bench press. I last lifted around 185 but I'm great at doing squats. I'm not really a gym rat but i'm a very tough 5'9 and a half and quick as hell...if that makes up for my lack of strength.
Good to see you making progress. I actually don't bench since I lift for basketball. I'm curious to see what your routine is like. If you really care about increasing your bench or have some other goal, I might be able to help a little if you want.
It is pretty much the same as it was when he had that huge thread that had you and LeGrouper arguing over some dude . But I will say that I have really been blasting my triceps and I feel that has helped me immensely with my bench.
Oh, that's just not any dude according to LeGrouper, but the GREATEST strength trainer in the world hahaha. Where is your sticking point on the bench? I could recommend some exercises if you wanted to improve your bench. Blasting the triceps is a good idea.
No. I was just using his words. I mean doing heavy work on triceps. That does not mean a few sets for the burn on pushdowns.
OK 6'1" 265 one time college FB player (D3 level) here. Highest I ever managed to get up was about 5 years ago when I was working out every day with a couple of friends. Managed to max out at 375 and almost put up 385. That was also when I was squatting about 600. Then when I did a burn out set of 225 (NFL standard for combines and tryouts) I did 24 reps as my best. However, repeated shoulder injuries (including 2 dislocations and bursitis in the shoulder joint) means I can't do bench anymore. Limited to incline and machines nowadays, when I can get to the gym.
tozai is right - it just means heavy work. Geez, rocks_fan, you might be (or were at one time) the strongest person on this board - 24 reps of 225!!
I also need to get a workout plan going which will help me to get cut and toned. I'm 6'4 215. Not fat, but I'm definetly not toned. I have one of those bodies that looks a little big in my torso, but have sticks for legs. I'm afraid to lift weights because just like someone else said, I don't want to look bigger. I know tozai and LeGrouper are really big into fitness, so if you guys could give me some tips or a weekly schedule, that would be a big help.
Well, I can't give you a workout that will make you cut and toned. That's all about diet. Tell me how many days a week you want to workout and I'll write something up sometime.
