I've just been following in the news that Razak was upset that Muslims like him are being looked at badly. So he goes off and does something that just reinforces the worst views of Muslims. I don't know if this guy was just stupid or just disconnected from reality.
This really should be moved to the D&D. To address this though the nature of how the Constitution enumerates most rights isn't based on citizenship. Things like free speech, due process and etc.. aren't just granted to citizens and to anyone in the jurisdiction of the US.
You've given a poor and misleading answer to his simple question. An international student on an F1 visa cannot buy a gun. Neither can a worker on an H-1B. You have to have a green card or be a citizen. He was a refugee and got a quick path to permanent residency. Two options to remedy this are no longer allowing non-citizens to buy guns or stop bringing in immigrants from crap hole countries and putting them on an instant pathway to citizenship.
So many kids go to college to take a break from whatever cultural or social baggage they grew up with back home. My parents matriculated on visas in the late '60s and early '70s, they couldn't go near any of the activism but certainly made sure to live in the moment and appreciate the experience and opportunity. Fortunately their religious upbringing was probably closely enough tied to colonialism that they just never cared that much. If you do it right, college really be a vacation from everything: your parents, your culture, adult responsibilities, worrying about current events or world affairs even in the context of your own race, nationality or religion.
Interesting and I will concede to your superior knowledge of gun laws. That said Constitutional rights such as free speech and due process still apply to anyone whether citizen, permanent resident or not and they are restrictions on the government rather than privelages to the people. This is another example of how the rights of the 2nd Amendment are different than the other rights.
25% of the world is Muslim. Bound to be a few idiots out there. Christians and Catholics 2/3s of the criminals in America. You guys need to get your **** together. Jewish people are at the highest rate %wise. https://www.statista.com/statistics/234653/religious-affiliation-of-us-prisoners/
I'm always a little dubious about those stats. It's like the old joke about the prisoner at his parole hearing: "So, inmate, when did you find religion?" "Oh, about 30 minutes after the police found me."
Really stupid question: with all our monitoring of citizens online (both lawful and unlawful), can't we flag people who watch more than like 30 seconds of ISIS videos? That's a "registry" I could get behind. I know it's still a slippery slope, and before you know it, I'm hauled off in chains for enjoying the Onion... but still. It seems like those recruitment vids are like opium to a certain kind of disaffected immigrant with mental issues.
That's the entire point of Snowden's releases. He has pointed out, that they are capturing data on absolutely everyone - which is impossible to be useful in a proactive manner. So what you end up doing, is slowly over time building cases against people that shouldn't even be under the radar. These "lone wolves" don't fall through the cracks. They are unavoidable. The sheer amount of data captured by the intelligence services on those within our borders can actually impede investigations, as their net is cast too wide and their resources too low to filter through it all. That is why stereotyping works in cases such as this. Monitoring the extremists is a far better use of resources. Far left, alt-right, sharia muslims, etc. The vast majority of attackers are extremists.
Still, 99.99% of Muslims would argue this guy is a crazy extremist and he deserved what he got. Allah didn't tell him to what he did. Just like God didn't tell these inmates to kill, steal, rape, sell and do drugs, etc.
But well more than half of all Muslims believe in and support Sharia (including about half of all Muslims within the US). I too call those that believe in Sharia, and their views, extremist. The same goes for Christians who believe that they can "heal" gays.
Go up to as many Muslims as you want, record the results and report back to this thread. No sane person would agree with this idiot.
No one would agree that Sharia law is an extremist view? Ask any gay or women's right advocate. I can call a religious view extremist, while respecting their right to exercise their religion - as long as it doesn't infringe upon others. Be Sharia all you want in your household, but try and pass laws supportive of Sharia and we're going to have problems.
I will always stand by my views that Sharia is extremist. Just look at what many of them believe, in very large numbers is some of the most influential countries of the world (Egypt, Malaysia, Pakistan, etc.) - http://www.pewforum.org/2013/04/30/...ligion-politics-society-beliefs-about-sharia/ Sharia applying to both Muslims and non-Muslims Stoning for Adultery Death for leaving Islam Capital punishment for theft Religious judges deciding disputes All of those issues above are extreme views, and believed by hundreds of millions of Muslims across the globe. That doesn't even take into consideration the view of women's and gay rights. Nearly every country that has overwhelming disdane for homosexual views are predominently Muslim (including 97% in Jordan, 95% in Egypt, 94% in Tunisia, 93% in the Palestinian territories, 93% in Indonesia, 87% in Pakistan, 86% in Malaysia, 80% in Lebanon and 78% in Turkey) - http://www.pewglobal.org/2013/06/04/the-global-divide-on-homosexuality/ The overall Muslim views on women's rights isn't much better - http://www.pewforum.org/2013/04/30/the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-women-in-society/ To try and slant Islam as a religion of moderates, is simply false. Are a good portion of Islamic Americans moderate or liberal when compared to other nations? 51% of Muslims in America believe in Sharia - http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/
You said that 99.9% of Muslims would agree that this guy was extremist. I proved you wrong with facts. If that is derailing the thread, I'll derail all day. Don't boast BS claims, and then cry foul when your claims are easily debunked. The facts are, that the Muslim faith is deeply divided and to act like most would side one way or the other is shortsighted.
