That's the problem, you're too far inside the crazy city. I'm on the far, far northwest side, almost out of town, and when I go to work I just go around the city instead of through the middle. It doesn't seem to have the same devil's-country factor as Dallas, though on the other hand... not trying to blaspheme here, but I wouldn't want to live in Houston anymore either. It's gotten way too crowded. But the inside of any city can be like that.

It's only better if you like having no/low expectations "because you're a girl" and enjoy society not frowning on you when you try to 'marry up' to improve your social status. Heck, even in the looks department a woman's window of opportunity is far smaller than those of a man's. A man in his 40's is seen as a plus because he's financially stable and can support a family. A woman in her 40's means her husband -- if he can help it -- is already nailing a much younger tail.
No racism. No bigotry. Maybe some stereotyping, but nothing overt or unfairly judgemental. I fail to see what exactly he did to get banned, except maybe offend Trader Jorge. As per the analogy with african americans: -as pointed out blacks don't solicit (in fact what other social or religious classification sells their identity like LDS do?) -mormons can chose to stop being mormon. they can also chose to not bother me with it. blacks are stuck being black.

That's a little over the top for me... I just invite them to the sit 'round the pentagram and sacrifice a pig. Seriously though, if folks get a little too in-my-face, my line is: "If you want me to consider your religion, why don't you act like people I'd want to be?" That usually knocks them for a loop.
