LOL yep, I certainly did. I do still watch parts of it with my hands slightly held over my eyes peeking through, but I know when to do that now. Mainly it was the people being eaten that got to me. After the first episode it wasn't as bad.

It's still pretty freaking graphic, maybe like Levi I am conditioned to deal with it after so much bloodshed in this series. (High School of the Dead probably helped with that as well)

I just finished Kokoro Connect which was cute. Slice of Life/Shoujo with a little supernatural thrown in for good measure. Plus I picked the right girl in the end, so my ship won - always good to know I still have that ability! It looks like it was a last fall show and they are dubbing for release from Sentai - it has Greg Ayers, Monica Reil and Luci Christian, so that makes me happy, I like them from Ouran and some of the other funimation stuff I've watched with them.

I started Diabolik Lovers RR14, but I'm not sure how long I will last. The main female is a little too... what's the right way to put this... she's too helpless and weak willed and I don't like females who play the victim so easily, especially in a genre that is targeted to females.

Idk, I think what's making me interested in this is the curiosity of how dark they're going to make it. This could be one of those controversial animes, but I think it's going to turn more into a romance soon. From what I've read about the game it's derived from the MC's toughness and strength was toned down in the anime. Don't think of me as some kind of sadist though wanting to see how much these vamps will mess her. Lol

Well they sort of hooked me in seeing Ayato's moment of doubt in the most recent ep... I'm struggle with how short they are too... I'll stick with it for a bit though because I love vamps :)

I am going to try amnesia too... The harem/rev harem shows can be good if they don't make the many girls/guys one dimensional - I need characters to grow at least a little bit during the season

I really hate ignorant posts like this. Why would I watch an anime 600+ episodes long (One Piece) if it's all filler? Think about that for a second. There's a reason it's gone on as long as it has if it wasn't so damn good. I used to think the same way you do, but I wanted to get my facts straight so that I didn't seem like an ignorant person criticizing a series that I really didn't know much about. Guess what? Now, it's my favorite anime series of all time.

I'm not saying it's gonna be your favorite if you watch it, too, but don't critize a series if you don't know what you're talking about.

Um, he said he watched it before and didn't like it then. He also didn't say it was all filler. I think he clearly knows what he's talking about.

He said it's a 600+ episodes of filler. He said he only saw it in 04-05 which was the 4kids version where the series was heavily edited for kids. No, he doesn't know what he's talking about just by watching a few episodes.

600 episodes "with a bunch of filler" is not the same thing as what you're saying.

Right, I worded it wrong (my bad), but it's not a bunch of filler. The series has among the least amount of filler episodes among the on-going series based on percentage. It's unlike Naruto or Bleach where they will go on 30+ filler episode sprees. It's usually 5 or 6 episodes at the most then back to main story.

Point of all of this, since I don't want this to drag on, is actually do a little research.

Example: I watched Fairy Tail and criticized it for the amount of fan service, changing of opening themes, and almost having no plot. It also is edited for not having blood compared to the manga and having very few people die if any. A major love interest was presumed to be dead only to turn out that she was alive in an alternate universe. To this day, I don't know what the main goal is for the series except for the main character trying to find his "dad"?

I can respect an opinion like that even if you don't like the series after watching it. Only watching a few episodes? It's not a good enough opinion for me.

Fair enough, but it just seems to me that he could have watched more than a few episodes. This could be colored by my own experience with the show, since I watched around 200 episodes (and as I recall, around the same time frame), and while I enjoyed it at first, it really grew tiresome for me.

Still liked it better than Naruto though.

The way I look at the series is the same way I look at setting up dominoes. You have to have patience sometimes as you go along, but it all comes together so amazingly when a single dominoe falls and knocks them all down. The last 400 episodes have all been a result of everything that's happened before that and made perfect sense. Things that made me go "Why did that happen?" then made me go "Holy ****, that makes perfect sense" now.

A huge domino falls during the series that starts a HUGE chain reaction of incredible story plots, fights, and emotional scenes that I don't think I've ever seen in an anime series before. I remember I could not stop watching for 300+ episodes as it just got better, better, and more unpredictable. Hopefully you think about picking where you left off, 'cuz you're missing out. It's pretty much the King of anime series in Japan at the moment and for a good reason.

I have discovered that one piece fans are very sensitive. I made the comment that of the character I didn't like as part of a tumblr challenge - at the time I had only seen about 45 episode of one piece and I said Usopp was my least fave and that he annoyed me. I had people calling me an idiot and lots of other not nice things.

The important thing is not to take it personally they aren't attacking you just because they don't like your show or favorite character. I like Usopp more but he started out annoying. One piece is really hard to catch up on when you start as far behind as I did. Plus it moves sort if slow at the beginning.

    Thanks for these suggestions.

Although I am enjoying anime comedies so far, I do prefer ones with an overarching storyline. Not sure if "slice of life" has that, or is it just like a sitcom?

So far I really liked Hataraku Maou-sama, and Zero No Tsukaima. Not sure if these even qualify as comedies, but they are hilarious.

Not trying to insult the anime or its fan boys. Just stating my opinion on the matter of catching up to a 600+ anime. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, and if you're curious, the last thing I remember about the show is the introduction of the reindeer doctor and when luffy first realizes his weakness in water while fighting a boss. I also didn't really like luffy as the Mc.

Please name me these "incredible story plots, fights, and emotional scenes" that you've never seen in anime, very interested in topping them with just yyh or hxh alone.

It being the "king of anime series in Japan" isn't a good reason nor impress me one bit, there's a plethora of animes that DESERVE multiple seasons that don't get them just because it wasn't a hit in Japan, but a hit everywhere else.

I'm interested in hearing this too. I've watched the 4kids version and the episodes that aired on Cartoon Network early 2000s. I thought they were OK but didn't understand the hype. I watched some of the anime and the US version for comparison and also didn't understand the HUGE backlash against the 4kids dub. They took out a couple cigarettes, blood, guns and scars and people lose their s**t because of that?

I really want to get into this anime because of all the hype, but boy is hard. I even went to hulu and tried to pick up the show
    after the time jump
and it was dragging for 13 episodes. I was wondering when they were going to get down to all this awesomeness I heard about.

I thought I would try again since adult swim was going to air it, and again, it has been dragging for 18 episodes! From what I understand the Water Seven arc, which is supposed to be some of the best anime in the history of histories, starts after this 20+ episodes of filler. I'm going to stick with it because I still want to like this show even though it has become a chore for me to watch every week.

As it is now ,I can only stomach ONE episode a week. Right now I don't care what happens next so I don't go to hulu or crunchyroll to watch ahead; it just isn't intriguing(right now). Compare that to SAO, which is by no means a great anime, after watching the first episode on adult swim went on to watch the next 14 episodes because I actually wanted to see what happened next.

When I watch an anime series, I make predictions on what happens soon which come out right. For instance, a Naruto Spoiler about Tobi's identity. click spoiler if you know already

I predicted long ago that he was Obito the entire time. I made that assumption based on the fact that they never found his body and refused to let his friends save him under a rock. I found it VERY fishy.

Same thing with Bleach or other series. I've seen YYHakusho as well. That was a great series but I
sometimes always knew that he could get back to his body by doing a specific task in the beginning of the anime or the way he was able to do well in his matches so that he could be trained by that granny lady. The ending was not what I expected though.

The thing with One Piece, Oda has this style where you think you have it figured out and he completely changes the outcome by including a new twist. Characters you remember from the beginning that were mentioned way back in the story to be among the strongest in the series make their entrances at the most unexpected moments (this is later on from where I think you watched). The fights later on really become clever at how a major character finds a way to defeat their opponent but also a great flashback at how they became what they became. Some powers that are revealed later on pretty much dwarf anything that had been seen up to that point, including one that can destroy the entire world at will.

Some plots or spoilers that I can mention is the idea behind the middle initial of Luffy, Ace, and Roger. What does the "D" mean? I could get into more detail on this, but that would spoil it.

Also, the emotion that is put in by the characters' voice actors is incredible. They really do a great job putting life into the characters. This anime made me realize I could get a chill behind my spine at their words and tone, especially Luffy's voice actress during the major part of the series.

I'll even make a confession. Never in my life did I think an anime series could make me tear up, but there was one scene (during the major part of the series) where it was just too much. If someone doesn't find that scene touching then there is something wrong with them.

The series has everything you could possibly want. Emotion, unpredictability, humor, momentum builder, and a huge climax. Many questions and plots have been revealed through the 600 episodes and yet there is still more to be done. Even when you catch up to the series, you get the sense that the best is STILL yet to come.

I'm not a fanboy who is overprotective or saying "omg you suck if you don't like this". 600+ with a bunch of filler was very puzzling for me, because I can name several things that were very important in the first 100 episodes long of the series.

Click spoiler if you truly seen the 1st 100 episodes of One Piece
Luffy found quite a few first crew members in that series. Usopp's father is revealed and should be considered one of the major characters since he is Usopp's dad. It WILL be a huge moment if Usopp finally meets his father face to face.

One of the ancient weapons is revealed during the Alabasta arc. One of the most wanted criminals of the series actually showed up, but it was someone you never thought was that huge of a bigshot. One of the supporting characters becomes a main character later on in the series as she is an archaeologist can reveal the secrets behind the ancient weapons and the ancient civilization that was wiped out long ago by the marines. A secret that the marines refuse to talk about that the incident is forbidden to be brought up. And much more.

I'm not a biased anime viewer, I'm honestly saying that this is one of the greatest anime series in history. Don't take my word for it. Ask someone you know who you think isn't biased to an anime that has seen this show. And I mean someone who is actually caught up with the anime. See what they tell you.

I like Naruto. I read Bleach but I think I read it just because I'm invested in it. For some reason, Naruto is so awesome to me. I'm pretty critical of anime but I guess it's my guilty pleasure that I don't mind the repetitive flashbacks and scene dragging.

As for fillers, I avoid it as much as possible.

The new animes this season that looks entertaining.

    Coppellion
    Kyoukai no Kanata
    Strike the Blood
Log Horizon(FWIW I really liked the light novels)
    Unbreakable Machine Doll

It will be the first time I'm watching anime since I started to seriously learn Japanese. Definitely going to try watching the raw versions this time to see just how much I can pick up.

where do you find light novels to purchase? I'm guessing you are reading them in Japanese?

I hadn't heard about the Kyoukai no Kanata one but that looks interesting... already had added Coppellion and Strike the Blood to my tbw list :)

    Thanks!
