So I'm fairly new to this genre as y'all may have noticed from my last thread but do y'all mostly watch fighting/qwest anime or a broad spectrum... I've added a bunch to my list of what to watch... Though fairy tail is taking a while to catch up... But I'm just curious. Also eve what are your faves?
there's a lot of different genres out there. mainly into action/shounen, but i like many different types. if you haven't, check out myanimelist http://myanimelist.net/panel.php it's an anime site where you can keep track of all the shows you've watched and find new shows to watch. it's pretty simple and helpful.
My top 3 is comprised of: 1. Yu Yu Hakusho - fighting 2. Clannad - Romance 3. Case Closed - Detective I recommend Emma: Victorian Romance to you. Just finished it not too long ago and it's the best pure romance/drama I've seen up to date.
Here's a full list of everything I've watched, sorted by my personal rating (best first): http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=AtheistPreacher&categ=3&sort=-rating My top anime series are (links are to episode 1 of each show): Texhnolyze Mushi-Shi Paranoia Agent DennÅ Coil Kino's Journey Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (both seasons) Gunslinger Girl (first season) Ergo Proxy Elfen Lied Emma: A Victorian Romance Ouran High School Host Club Most of these shows are aimed at older audiences and really make you think... they have some real meat to them. I don't mind being confused by the things I watch -- in some ways I prefer it. I don't understand the half of Texhnolyze, but that's part of the reason I keep going back to it. It has metaphors within metaphors and allegories within allegories, and I always ending up noticing new things every time I watch it (seen it five times now). Most of these aren't as bad as all that, though. Texhnolyze, Paranoia Agent, and Ergo Proxy are tops for "confusing" and "out there." The rest of them are just smartly written.
Actually, yes, they're doing a new series as we speak. I am guardedly optimistic about it. Production I.G. is still producing the series, but Kenji Kamiyama -- who wrote and directed both seasons of Stand Alone Complex -- is not involved in the project at all. This makes me nervous. Kamiyama is immensely talented (he also directed Moribito and Eden of the East), and I'm just not completely convinced that anyone can fill his shoes. Also, this series is basically the Major's origin story, and origin stories tend to be either really good or really bad. Here's hoping it's the former.
I finally watched Eden of the East and it's pretty good with a memorable story and characters. I should have more spare time to check other recommendations out.
Escaflowne (the TV series) is an old favorite of mine. Fantasy action and romance with a great soundtrack.
The funny thing about Escaflowne is it's set in a medieval fantasy world that *also* has giant robots. How exactly does that work? How is it that they invented giant robots that can shoot laser beams at people, and yet they apparently haven't invented microwaves, or plastic, or any number of things that one would assume a society would invent before attaining giant death robots. Whatever. It doesn't all have to make sense, I suppose.
This thread again popping up again. I still watch anime, although not nearly as much as I used to. I find that I generally watch different stuff from most people here. So take these recommendations with a grain of salt. These are fairly recent, as I've probably listed older ones earlier in the thread Psycho-Pass - fairly serious thought-provoking type Steins; Gate - Fun yet serious at the same time, very good blend Zetsuen no Tempest(Blade of Tempest) - Markets as an action show, but more of a puzzle solver IMO, which I really liked Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai(translation: I don't have many friends)/Kore wa Zombie Desu ka(Is This a Zombie?) - These are stupid high school zany animes that probably only amuses me though
Just gotta go with it when it comes to mech logic. Aura Battler Dunbine is a much older show that featured mechs in a medieval fantasy setting so Escaflowne isn't unique in that regard.
Someone already mentioned Psycho Pass... sounds right up my alley, I hope to check it out soon. Steins;Gate is another one that's been on my list. It is indeed quite new -- 2011 -- but it's garnered a lot of praise. Yet another on of my long list of things I want to watch eventually.
the most hardcore intro theme for any anime <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:arc:video:gametrailers.com:9029dbb4-8c71-4725-ae4f-7b31284c9a99" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0"></iframe><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/">GameTrailers</a></b></p></div></div>
Hardcore? Pft. Whatever. Not nearly as hardcore as Onizuka shooting himself in the mirror at the end of the GTO intro. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Y9iMa-lliVc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Finally on the kyoto arc, haven't been marathoning lately. Going to take a break and watch some of the new uploads on Netflix, mainly trigun. Then there is also crunchy roll that I subscribed to.
