Trust me, I was in your shoes

I didnt like One piece until episdoe 40 or so because I wasnt use to the style of drawing ( I was always a slam dunk fan, so i preferred more realistic drawings)

but the anime grew on me due to the great character development + its very very unexpecting...Oda (the artist) is very very smart...and kudos for him

And if you like action, it has everything in it, hand to hand combat, sword fighting, guns, cannons, magic etc etc

    I would watch One Piece if I was younger. :D (I'm 20)

300+ episodes is a bit too much.

My favorite series are Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing(the new gundam seed/destiny suck imo), Macross Plus, Outlaw Star, Ghost in the Shell, EVA, DB series etc..

All of those have been around for a long while..

My son got be hooked on NARUTO
I have seen all the Episodes and now moved on to the Shippudden

Death Note was my attempt to venture into something new
I have tried Witchblade and Speed Grapher [a bizarra concept]
    neither has grabbed my attention . . . .

My son like One Peice but i could never get into it . . .not my style of comedy

In college I was big on Anime . . . but mainly movies
I think Naruto was the 1st series I watched.

I saw a preview of it last week, I was shocked and really excited. But now that I've had time to contemplate it, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they are able to translate the suspense and constant twists from the original. If they throw in some forced romance tangent I will kill someone. I kept telling friends that this series (particularly the first third) would make a great Hollywood movie if done right.

I did a brief search, and there is a Japanese live-action movie of Death Note...didn't look like it got good reviews.

I like Death Note, but I think I like Bleach more. Death Note took me much longer to get into, and by the time I did, the plot twist really messed with the dynamics of WHY I liked the show.

Unfortunately, I was late on getting into Bleach. I missed probably the first 40 eps on Adult Swim. Some day, I'll look for a torrent or two and catch up. :)

For the member who wanted to know the berserk link, stoptazmo.com (registration) has a lot of manga available.

Goto evil-genius.us for the most recent scans.

I've been waiting for that series to end before startin on it. What are some episodes to skip? The quality between filler and manga canon is big.

Right now bleach and naruto are stuck on filler, which makes it a waste of time to watch.

We'll all be dead when Berserk is finally done.

How many freaking breaks does Miura need?

I could, but the Wikipedia page would do a much better job. Check it out:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_(manga)

Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki. The early parts of the story focus mainly on these characters. As events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of the gods of death.

The story opens with the sudden appearance of Rukia Kuchiki in Ichigo Kurosaki's bedroom. She is surprised at his ability to see her, but their resulting conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a "hollow", an evil spirit. After Rukia is severely wounded while trying to protect Ichigo, she intends to transfer half her powers to Ichigo, hoping to give him the opportunity to face the hollow on equal footing. Ichigo unintentionally absorbs almost all her powers instead, allowing him to defeat the hollow with ease.

The next day, Rukia appears in Ichigo's classroom as a transfer student. Much to his surprise, she appears to be a normal human. She theorizes that it was the unusual strength of Ichigo's spirit that caused him to absorb almost all her powers, thus leaving her stranded in the human world. Rukia has transferred herself into a gigai — an artificial human body — while waiting to recover her abilities. In the meantime, Ichigo must take over her job as a Soul Reaper, battling hollows and guiding lost souls to Soul Society.

Bleach is like Naruto, which is like Dragon Ball: indestructible protagonist who gets stronger with every fight and is kinda one dimensional because of his pure idealism.

Hunter X Hunter is even more similar to Naruto. It's an older series and it wasn't completed.

Bingo...except I don't remember DBZ being filled with a megaton of fillers. The story from Bleach/Naruto manga is great, the fillers are zzzzzz for the most part.

I used to hate One Piece but I like it now. Another anime that starts out slow but gets good is D.Gray Man. SLam Dunk is a classic no bbs anime fan here should miss. I think that's one of the first anime that got me into anime.

To be honest, there isn't a huge amount filler arcs in One Piece. I'm not exactly sure how they've kept ahead of the manga without resorting to dozens of filler eps like Naruto and Bleach. I mean there is filler in OP, but it's usually 8-10 ep mini-arcs here and there than massive runs of eps like the other two.

The episode guide at wikipedia is informative and nicely formatted:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_piece_episodes

Looking at the list, the ones that are filler or side stories are:

Buggy Side Story (46-47) - It's in the manga, but does not follow the regular crew
Battleship Island (54-61) - There are some manga-based story elements in this, so it might not be skipable, unless you don't mind a slight amount of confusion.
Koby/Helmeppo Side Story (68-69) - Same as Buggy Side story.
    Post-Alabasta (131-135)
    Goat Island (136-138)
    Rainbow Mist (139-143)
G8 (196-206) - Which I would actually watch because it's a pretty good filler arc.
Ocean's Dream (220-226) - Which is another pretty decent filler arc.
    Ice Hunter (326-336)

Aside from these, there is one other thing you can do to fast forward a big chunk of the story. The Alabasta arc (episodes 92-130), was condensed into the #8 OP movie. I wouldn't recommend it since you'll miss out on too much story, but there's that option if you just want to get the bullet points of the series.

Unfortunately for uncommitted viewers, the best arcs IMO are relatively late in the series (eps 207-325). So it's a bit of a wait for the show to really shine. But if you can get through and enjoy the first 53 episodes, which I thought was pretty good in it's own right, then I would just push through and watch the rest.

    Thanks m_cable,

I'm not looking to blast through the series. I hate the suspense broken when shows decide to run 4-10 fillers between the good stuff.

I watched the first movie (there's a fan sub out there). Nice but not overwhelming. But part of that is because Death Note is the kind of story where it's much better the first time. Because of all the suspense involved. Once you kind of know how things turn out, it's not nearly as interesting.

OK. I am at least 3/4ths of the way through
I see the downturn folx warned me of. . .

    1. The death of L and Watari bothers me . . . mainly because how it came about. Plus he was a good counter to Kira/Light
    2. I still cannot understand why . . . one Death God would commit suicide to Save Misa Misa. . .but TWO is just ridiculous
. . . It was kind of a cheap way to kill off L and Watari

The intro of NEAR and Mello does not make up for it. . .

This like the westerns . . where the guy falls off the cliff . . .
then . . they go back and show you 'what really' happened . . and it don't match up at all . .. .

The 1st time they did it. . . i was like . . eehh .. ok . . now they pulled it out
    a second time . . . . .I am less than impressed

Overall . . .still good but . .. some issues
